FeelWorld FW703 Reviews
Great For Focus!
Had this monitor since 2018, and I use it manly for focus pulling. It's a great monitor, good brightness, easy to use buttons and at a great price. Construction is a bit flimsy but it's held together so far for me over 5 years for me. I am gently on my gear though, I take care of it. I wouldn't rent this out in fear of it being damaged. Only complaints are sometimes the sdi in can be a bit finicky, but it's usually the type of cable you have attached. Doesn't like a lot of strain/weight on the input. Haven't used HDMI much so can't attest to that. Throw on a large battery and this thing can run for hours! Wouldn't throw any more money into a fancier monitor when there are so many other things that are more important.
HORRIBLE MONITOR
I'll go straight to the summary: - Enormous input lag - Flimsy design (I have this attached to an Xtender 210, when I tilt the bracket, the LCD on the monitor flashes. This shows the chassis is weak and bendable - my SmallHD monitors don't do this). - High pitch whine (when you turn the monitor on before the camera is turned on, the monitor makes a high pitch whine. The camera must be turned on first before turning on the monitor).
Price makes up for issues
I'd probably give this 3 stars on merit, but the fact that it's SOOO CHEAP pushed me to give it 4. The good: it actually has a ton of functionality. LUTs, SDI and HDMI, aspect ratio overlays, customizable anamorphic squeezes (that also work with the overlays), false color. I love that I can desqueeze anamorphic AND crop in to see only a 2.39:1 extract from the image. Some of my nicer monitors don't have all this. The only thing that I really miss is HDMI-SDI cross conversion, but I really can't fault it for that at this price. The color also seems reasonably accurate. Maybe not perfect, but no glaring color cast. The bad: usability is iffy. There's no touch screen, which is fine, but the buttons are not particularly intuitive via muscle memory. The buttons are on top so I usually can't see them and have to feel my way around and remember their order. The layout is Custom 1, Custom 2, Left Arrow, Right Arrow -- big gap -- Menu, Down Arrow, Up Arrow, Input. So if you need to move in the menu, you can't go directly to the arrows, you have to make sure you pass over the other keys to get to the right spot. It's a little buggy too. Frequently things like the anamorphic desqueeze will reset itself after I do a punch-in for focus. Lastly, getting LUTs installed is a pain because there's no SD slot. You need a USB Mini to USB female adapter (which is not included) and plug in a flash drive. I tend to use the same handful of LUTs so not a big deal for me, but it'd be a pain if you need to replace them frequently. In summary, no regrets, would buy again.
Does the job
So far no problems at all. I use it for focus pulling and it was the right price for a simple job. Of course its not the best monitor for reviewing footage, but it meets my needs. I wouldn't spend a dollar more for a focus monitor. Only catch is the construction. Not at all bad, but I wouldn't rent it out to a stranger.
