Blackmagic Design ATEM 1 overview

  • 1Description

The Blackmagic Design ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel is a full-featured hardware control panel for BMD ATEM switchers. It connects via Ethernet and provides hands-on tactile control, essential for broadcast studios. An LCD information display surrounded by soft-touch menu buttons and rotary encoders allows for intuitive programming of control functions. Aside from the main display, each programmable button has an LCD scribble strip to illustrate its function. Since buttons can perform different functions, up to 20 inputs can be accessed by shifting the 10 input buttons. The buttons themselves have curved indentations to help avoid incorrect keystrokes. Real-time dynamic controls are available in the form of a single 3-axis joystick and large weighted T-bar fader. Use the joystick to remotely control PTZ cameras or effects, and the T-bar to adjust transitions, wipes, fades, and more.

At the rear of the unit are dual Ethernet connections, a USB port for firmware updates, and power inputs. Use the IEC input for connecting to mains power, and the 4-pin XLR 12V input for DC power supplies. The panel's chassis is sized small enough to fit in a standard equipment rack, allowing it to be implemented in broadcast trucks and fly-away kits.

    Blackmagic Design ATEM 1 reviews

ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'm a Fan of this panel. I use to have the previous model. I bought this item, upgrading from the previous BM Broadcast Panel. I personally love this thing. A lot of little tweaking features for personalization, etc. Yes, this thing is pricey; but if you have the money it is a solid physical panel, it makes switching 10 times easier. The soft buttons and the digital display is nice as well, letting you custom name cameras and inputs. Things I like: -Making macros on this. -Graphic tweaking -Customization of names and color coding -Clean look -Soft buttons for better navigating I took a star off, because as the previous review said, they should of added a video monitor option on the big screen at least. Plus control of the audio would have been nice as well. Maybe in an update...who knows.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total waste of money Meh... 1/5 stars. This purchase was a total waste of money. There was not enough review on the internet at the time I purchased this unit to have a full understanding of it capabilities which now that I have the unit is kind of limited for the money you pay. 1. At the time of writing this review, this unit will not control PTZ cameras over IP. I was expecting just having to enter an IP and the protocol for it to work, however, a serial cable or SDI magic seems to be the way to control remote PTZ cameras. 2. When changing a setting from the menu, the unit will reboot itself without warning you. A "The unit will reboot" message would have been appreciated. 3. This unit is using a USB-C cable to upgrade its firmware, which is not that common yet. The cable is not supplied so I had to go buy one uniquely to upgrade the unit. 4. At that price tag, I was expecting the big 5" screen to display the live preview and program feed which is not the case. 5. At that price tag, you better just use the FREE PC app (ATEM Software Control) and use the money to buy a touch-screen tablet on which the software is installed. 6. At that price tag, I would seriously consider the ATEM Television Studio Pro HD that Combine a Switcher and a Control Panel instead of this unit. 7. Like I already said, in my case : It's a total waste of money and I regret this purchase.
