At the rear of the unit are dual Ethernet connections, a USB port for firmware updates, and power inputs. Use the IEC input for connecting to mains power or the 4-pin XLR 12V input for DC power supplies. The panel's chassis is sized small enough to fit in a standard equipment rack, allowing it to be implemented in broadcast trucks and fly-away kits.

Blackmagic Design ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel Reviews

Too Big, Too Pricey, for Just a Button-Box

What this should’ve been is a 19 x 12 x 1 surface with a hinged fold-flat rear panel, low-profile T-bar, 1RU tall, shallow enough to mount in a rack drawer or sit cleanly in front of gear. And, it should be less than half the price. I had planned to pair this with the ATEM 2 M/E Constellation HD to add capability, but this controller panel's design made me not buy either. At over 15 deep with a fixed angled back, it’s too bulky for flypacks, OB vans, or many control room desks (including mine). It blocks access to rack gear behind it and won’t fit in rack drawers or tight setups. For something that doesn’t process video at all, this panel is unjustifiably large. You could cut at least 4 inches off the bottom of it and make the back panel fold flat, and it would have been fine. Worse, it costs $3,379—but all it does is send switch commands over Ethernet. The free ATEM Software Control app actually does more. This panel doesn’t add capability—it just gives you buttons and a T-bar in an oversized footprint. That’s it. So why is it priced like it's actually doing the switching?? Instead, I paired my ATEM Extreme ISO with a Stream Deck, building a compact, powerful, automated setup. I lost the T-bar and some of the Constellation capability, but gained far more flexibility and control in the physical space I have. Unless Blackmagic rethinks the form factor and price, this panel just doesn’t belong in real-world workflows.

Solid feel

The solid feel of this panel, combined with the fact that it can be POE powered make this a nice professional addition to my control room.
