I received one of these converters that was DOA and killed other pieces of equipment.

Product Description Misleading

The B&H Photo description says the convertor has LC fiber connections. It does not....it requires an SFP Optical module. The 12G module is $350. But if you don't need 12G you can by 3G or 6G modules quite a bit cheaper.  I contacted B&H to tell them about the description and they simply told me OK, sorry. I have not used these yet as I didn't have the needed parts. I can't comment on the functionality yet.

Perfect!!!

It works and the price is great. You will also need to purchase SFP modules since none are included.

Additional Parts needed/ No locking power supply

I was excited for this product when i saw it was coming out cuz its super cheap compared to other fiber converters and it had a locking power supply (win win right?). However, when I opened the box I realized that there is no supplied locking power supply, you'll have to purchase that yourself! Additionally and even more frustrating is that it doesn't work right out of the box because it doesn't come with the fiber modules to connect your fiber cables. So now I have to go and purchase those as well. Blackmagic has come a long way in the past few years but they frustrate me so many times because of the lack of basic common sense. I understand wanting to make things affordable but don't cut things out that are just going to frustrate people. If you say you have a locking power supply, provide a locking power supply. If you're selling a product make sure it can work right out of the box! Or at the very least let your customer know, before they purchase something, that you're going to need additional equipment to make it work.

Rock solid.

Works great! I purchased the recommend SFPs and had flawless signals at 1080P60 for 2+ weeks in broadcast video wall deployment. Locking power connectors are always a pro-level feature and I was glad to see they were included on this unit.

An improved product

The device is improved in a number of ways over the previous generation. It's smaller, feels stronger, and has a threaded locking power supply port. It is a little awkward that you have to add your own SFP module, which is not exactly immediately clear, but it does keep the cost quite low for anyone needing only 1080 resolution. The 12G stuff makes this product more expensive than its 4k predecessor, so that's a drawback. But, having bi-directional function on these is a lifesaver in all sorts of situations - not the least of which is sending a confidence monitor signal to any given camera position, which really helps in engineering live events.

The ShieldRock Rack10 works well. You can also add-on a single power supply, power splitters, and DC barrel cables if you want it all super-organized.

Device states "Multi-Rate", does that mean I can use 1G SFP's just to transmit 3G-SDI signal?
Asked by: Alfred
According to Blackmagic Design, "Multi-Rate" is in reference to the various supported resolutions and frame rates. Only 3G, 6G, and 12G SDI SFPs will work.

Yep. One side of the SFP is fiber out and the other side is fiber in. Just don't forget to actually buy the SFP... It's usually sold separately from the converter box.
