The Window Voile for 6 x 7' HiLite Softbox from Manfrotto is a light, translucent, cotton fabric generally used for making curtains. The voile hangs from a provided collapsible pole placed at the top of the HiLite and drapes to the floor. Its translucent fabric can be gathered together on the pole to imitate drapery and is attractive enough to be used as a background. Ideal for head-and-shoulders or full-length shooting, even in a darkened studio the subject appears to be illuminated by a large window.

What kind of lights are recommended?

If you are using the Manfrotto HiLite Illuminated White Background (6 x 7') with the Manfrotto Window Voile for 6 x 7' HiLite Softbox, you may either use hot shoe speedlight flashes, studio strobes, or COB LED light fixtures to illuminate the softbox/background. If you are looking for recommendations, for studio strobe usage, I would recommend to purchase two (2) of the Godox DP300II Flash Head, B&H # GODP300II. For COB LED continuous light recommendations, two (2) of the Nanlite FS-150 Daylight LED Monolight B&H # NAFS150, would be a good option for your usage needs. https://bhpho.to/2PwrlJe https://bhpho.to/3JqGR7q

Can this be used with the 5x7 hilite, or does it have to be 6x7?

According to Lastolite, the Lastolite Window Voile for 6 x 7' HiLite Softbox (along with the Lastolite 6 x 7' Super White Vinyl Train for the HiLite (B&H # LAVT67SW) and the Lastolite Shapers and Masks for 6 x 7' HiLite Softbox (B&H # LALB8967) are only compatible for use with the larger Lastolite HiLite Illuminated White Background 6 x 7' (1.8 x 2.15m). It is not listed as compatible for use with the smaller Lastolite HiLite Illuminated White Background 5 x 7' (1.5 x 2.15m).

Is 7' the width or the height? Can this be used with the HiLite placed in 'landscape' orientation (7' wide x 6' tall) ?

Does it actually light up or do you have to add light to it? Is it just the soft box itself?

The Manfrotto Window Voile would be used for the Manfrotto 6 x 7' HiLite Softbox, which requires lighting to be inserted on both sides.
