Gitzo GK1545TA Series 1 Tripod Kit Overview

The dedicated GK1545TA Series 1 Traveler Tripod Kit is a 4-section carbon fiber support with twist locks that unlock with a quarter turn. Once unlocked, you can extend each section, along with the rapid center column to reach a maximum height of 65". With the legs completely splayed out, the tripod has a minimum height of 9.25", and the tripod's legs fold in the reverse direction to a length of 16.9" for storage or transport.

The black and silver-gray head is an Arca-type compatible ball head with a load capacity of 22 lb and a vertical tilt of 90°. Also, the head can rotate a full 360° and stays in position with its independent pan lock. The dedicated quick release plate has a groove to match the bottom profile of the camera, so the plate does not move while attached. Additionally, an Italian leather strap is included to carry the tripod comfortably on your shoulder.

Everything about this tripod is smooth and functional. This is my third Gitzo, and I can't say enough about the ease of extending or retracting any Gitzo tripod's legs. I was amazed when B&H offered it for $200 off, as Gitzos don't usually go on sale. I wouldn't be ashamed to make it my main tripod except that I still have my full-size Gitzo, which has been my trusty companion ever since carbon fiber tripods were invented.

It is very light and easy to carry, but it does not cost anything in terms of the build quality.

Will this tripod head accept a Kirk or Really Right Stuff L bracket for Sony a9 and a7 series cameras?

While each brand as has a slightly different interpretation of what Arca-Swiss means, we have not heard of any issues with high-end tripod manufacturer incompatibility. In other words, you should not have any problem using Gitzo, Kirk and RRS in the way you wish.

Both are excellent tripods, the Mountaineer series have a considerably higher load capacity than the Traveler series.

Is it the same tripod legs and ball head as BH #GIGK1545TKT, which costs more? Otherwise it will work with any Arca quick release plate or L-bracket?

Yes, they are virtually the same tripods and heads, with the exception of slightly different coloring. They are both Arca type compatible heads, so they will work with Arca type plates and L brackets. Model GIGK1545TKT, is $50 more.

Apart from the specific Alpha Sony quick release plate, can this tripod and Head(GK1545TA) be used like the ordinary Gitzo GT1545T ? Does the Head accept RRS quick release plates(Arca-Swiss) of other camera brands(Not Sony)? Thanks.

The tripods and heads are the same except for the Sony dedicated anti twist plate on the TA version. Both units accept RRS and other manufacturers Arca style plates.
