Benro GH5C Overview

Handle your telephoto lens smoothly and effectively with the Benro GH5C Carbon Fiber Gimbal Head with PL100LW Plate, which is an optimal tool to use when photographing with lenses that are hard to manage because of their large size. The 9.7" gimbal head can support equipment up to 66 lb, making it easier to track a fast-moving subject such as in sports or wildlife photography.

The aluminum-constructed platform is Arca-type compatible and height-adjustable, which balances the lens on the head when you rotate or swing the lens on its axis. The arm can swing to point the lens up or down, and the tension control knob adds drag to the arm's swing. At the same time, the head rotates a full 360° and locks into place with its independent pan lock. Additionally, vertical and panoramic scales are located on the head, so you can duplicate a setup.

Highly recommend. Light weight carbon fiber hold but d500 with 200-500 and d850 with 600prime secure. Nice fluid motion.

A Trustworthy Tool.

After I agonized over choosing the best gimbal, looking at all the specs, reading the reviews, and watching a great may videos, I chose the Benro GH5C. So far, I am happy that I did. One must have trust in the gimbal and tripod being used. The GH5C functions well. I feel confident using expensive equipment on it, and I enjoy using it

Benro fixed threading problem, A+ product & service

This is my second review since I couldn't update my first review, Benro's US distributor & service company agreed to fix the problem I had with the threads being recessed to much for a secure mount to a tripod or monopod. I sent the gimbal in, they sent it back and it wasn't fixed, HOWEVER, their customer service person, Rita, apologized profusely & said it was just a mistake on the part of their service techs, so instead of having me sent it back for repair, she had a brand new GH5C sent to me overnight so I could complete my shoot this weekend and the new GH5C had fixed the problem and I believe that it's the best all-around Gimbal available, especially given the very reasonable price. It's an excellent product with right amount of tension and you can't beat the customer service. A very big thank you to Rita. I've attached a pic of the new base. I'm a very happy and now loyal Benro customer.

Nice Gimbal Head

This was my first gimbal head and I was a bit anxious about how it would work out. I watched some online video reviews and chose this Benro unit. It is very nicely made and not as heavy as I would have expected (thanks to the carbon fiber - hooray). The first time I used it I loved it. Very easy to balance and to use. Very smooth as I moved my camera to try and track some birds. Only used it a few times, but very happy with my decision.

Great Gimbal Head but pricey

I bought this Benro GH5C Gimbal Head from B&H Photo after seeing several gimbal heads reviewed by Matt Granger. It is pretty expensive but all of the better ones are at or above this price point. It is smooth, locking knobs are easy to get to and adjust for friction. I would recommend this if you are in the market for a quality gimbal head.

Smooth and Light

Pros: Movement of the head is smooth in all directions. Easy and quick to adjust the head as you change from one lens to another. The unit is light. Cons: The PL100LW plate has a very smooth mating surface and will easily slip. I've had camera&lens start to rotate on the plate while trying to shoot. This does not inspire confidence. It has been a complaint on B&H ratings going back a long time. Why doesn't Benro fix this?

Excellent Gimbal - stable and easy to use

I use this gimbal with my 600mm f/4 and 100-500mm lenses. The gimbal is ergonomically excellent, very stable, and easy to use. I am very pleased with it. It makes shooting birds and wildlife with a tripod practical.

Why did I wait so long?

I've used two different proprietary ball heads for many years. One on tripod and one on monopod. It was always annoying when I wanted to switch from one to the other as I would have to exchange attachment plates. Well, I finally decided to upgrade and to have both supports feature arca-Swiss mounting plates. I also decided to switch to a gimbal head as I shoot birds and wildlife. Wow! What a dream. Once adjusted this setup is simply unbelievable. Light, easy, and fast to use. Feels solid. No gaps, wobbles, or any obvious production issues. Highly recommend. And now I able to move from tri- to monopod as easy as 1,2,3!

Will this head work with the Benro Travel Angel FTA19C ?
Asked by: Seth
The Benro GH5C Carbon Fiber Gimbal Head with PL100LW Plate will mount on the Benro FTA19CV0 without issue. However keep in mind that tripod has a capacity of 17.6 lb and the Benro GH5C has one of 66 lbs. So don't over load the tripod, keep the total weight of camera and head under 17.6 lbs and you will be good.

PL100LW a hex to tighten or one of the "C" knobs that require hand tightening?
Asked by: Bruce
If you're asking about the quick release plate that comes with the Benro GH5C Carbon Fiber Gimbal Head with PL100LW Plate (B&H# BEGH5C), the PL100LW currently comes with a screw that can be hand-tightened to secure it to the camera. However, using a screwdriver to tighten it further will make it more secure and is typically still advisable.
