Allen & Heath ZEDi-10FX Compact Hybrid Mixer/USB Interface (with On-Board Effects Engine)

Designed to bring the signature Allen & Heath sensibility to a compact and portable frame, the ZEDi-10FX is a ten-channel mixer that sports reverb, delay, chorusing, and tap-tempo functionality. But that's not all: the unit also doubles as a USB interface offering four channels of conversion—either analog-to-digital or vice-versa. On the analog side, you get four XLR inputs, four line inputs, two instrument ports, and two pairs of stereo line inputs. Thus, you'll find the ZEDi-10FX equally suited for live-mixing in small venues and for tracking instruments on the fly.

Should you choose use the unit as an interface, you'll find that it comes with Cubase LE, a digital audio workstation which enables you to record, sequence, and edit music, be it audio or MIDI.

In the analog realm, the ZEDi-10FX is crafted with preamps modeled on the Allen & Heath GS2-R24. These channel strips aim to provide warmth, low noise, and a vast expanse of headroom. On-board EQs also come standard with the unit. Two channels feature a button that converts line-level signal into high-impedance jacks, meaning guitar players need not lug an extra DI box around should they wish to go direct into the board.

Turning your attention back to the digital side of things, you'll notice that a USB switch controls the routing of your USB output, enabling you to select how you route and separate the incoming analog signals into your DAW.

Auray MXB-1515B Padded Nylon Bag for Mixers & Accessories (15.5 x 15.5 x 5.5")

Transport any 15 x 15" mixer without worrying about scratches, scuffs, or impact damage, thanks to the Auray MXB-1515B. This bag offers thick foam padding to absorb shocks and bumps in transit as well as a weather-resistent shell to protect against inclement weather.

The bag is designed to keep your gear safe and organized with internal, touch-connect tie-down straps to safeguard your mixer during transport as well as cable-management straps to keep your cables from tangling.

An internal zippered pocket keeps important accessories or documents organized and easy to access, so you won't have to rummage around your case to find them. The external pocket also offers cable management straps to keep cables coiled, neat, and tidy, which will reduce setup time.

Padded nylon grab handles make carrying easy and comfortable. However, you can also deploy the adjustable shoulder strap to free up your hands when you're carrying other gear.

Perfect for Mixers
Have you ever transported your mixer by throwing it in a backpack or carrying it under your arm? That's no way to travel with an important piece of gear. The next time you're traveling to a rehearsal, gig, or remote broadcast, make sure your mixer is protected by the MXB-1515B's thick layer of foam and weather-resistent shell.
Fits Mixers up to 15 × 15"
Auray's MXB-1515B case fits mixers up to 15 × 15", including the popular Mackie ProFX12v2 12-Channel Sound Reinforcement Mixer and the Yamaha MG10XU 10-Input Mixer.
Padded and Weather-Resistant
A thick foam interior absorbs dings and impacts when you're taking your mixer to a new location. And in case of stormy weather, the nylon shell will keep all the contents of the case dry.
Tie-Down Straps
The only thumping you should hear coming from your mixer are the drums. To keep your mixer snug and strapped down so it doesn't move around inside the case, there are two adjustable interior touch-connect tie-down straps.
Internal Pocket
An internal zippered pocket will keep your music, notes, scripts, LEDs, or earphones separate and organized. Keeping these items separate from your other gear means they'll be at your fingertips, and you won't have to rummage around the case to find them.
External Pocket
An external pocket features cable management straps that will keep your cables separated and coiled, so you don't have to spend the first part of the gig untangling all your mic, guitar, and power cables.
Carry Options
Sturdy and padded nylon grab handles, with a touch-connect surround, make carrying easy and comfortable. But you can deploy the adjustable shoulder strap to free up your hands when you're carrying other gear.

Allen & Heath ZEDI-10FX Reviews

Almost Perfect!

I mostly use this to record multiple hardware synths to a DAW. It uses space well on my desktop studio. The sound is great. It says 10 inputs, but there are 6 inputs that matter to me: 4 mono, 1 stereo, and 1 USB OR stereo input. So if you're hooking up to a computer, it is like 4 mono + 1 stereo. You can plug in a guitar or mic with or without a preamp, just mash the toggle switches as needed to boost or dampen the signal. The effects are passable, and so no pedals needed. Or, I should say, now I'm only tempted to buy good pedals instead of any pedals. It has an internal power supply. I'm almost perfectly happy with it. Why 4 stars? MacOS detects this as either ZEDi-10FX or A&H Audio 1.0 depending on the how everything gets powered up. (Startup scenario A,B,C explained below.) It always works fine, but the problem is with the different device names. I have to change the preferences of any audio software set to one device name vs the other. This happens a lot. I use a switchable power strip and turn things on/off as I need them. That could be my problem, but whatevs its annoying. So minor complaint, but my prior experience was with a Focusrite Scarlet 2in-2out with nary an issue. So 4 stars. It is still really great. I would otherwise love it. ITS GREAT I LOVE IT!!! It has an internal power supply! The interface is clearly labeled. I basically learned to use it by looking at it. The manual is helpful if spartan. Also, if you care, the power plug is not a conventional computer power cable (IEC-320-C13). It is a less common standard (like the 'ET head' or mickey mouse connector). If you are wondering if you should get this or a ZED10FX, I've read the deciding factor is ZED10 can shape the mid-frequencies with an extra eq knob on each input channel. Its for live gigs. You can boost vocal clarity, dampen boomy instruments, remove unwanted harmonics etc. But ZED10 is one final mix to computer via USB. It doesn't do 4-in-4-out to a DAW like the ZEDi-10FX. So do you want the ability to remove annoying frequencies at a live gig? ZED10. Or do you want to noodle a multi-synth jam into 4 DAW tracks and edit the tracks individually? ZEDi-10FX. I wanted to record multi-instrument uh, performances LOL, and and afterwards keep the good parts, so ZEDi for me. RE: BOOT ORDER & MACOS DEVICE NAMING - 3 SCENARIOS: (A) Devices connected + ZEDi powered on first + Mac boots 2nd = ZEDi10FX audio device. (B) Devices connected + Mac boots 1st + ZEDi boots 2nd = A&H USB Audio 1.0. (C) Mac is on + ZEDi is on + unplug/plug ZEDi = ZEDi10FX. Everything works fine with either audio device name. But DAW software doesn't re-configure automatically to the different names. That's a bunch of clicks.#

Hosa Technology GPP290 Monaural Male 1/4" Phone ...

Hosa Technology GPP290 Monaural Male 1/4" Phone to Stereo Female 1/4" Phone Adapter Can the above adapter be used to insert headphones into the adapter re the Zedi 10 FX's "aux out" quarter inch jack? Would this, notwithstanding the need for a converter, to convert line level signal to headphones level signal, work? If headphones are inserted into the aux out jack directly, the result is audio in the left ear only.
Asked by: Christian
First, let's make clear that headphone signal is line level and headphone outputs typically use a stereo connector. The aux output on the Allen & Heath ZEDi-10FX is sending a mono line level output signal via a 1/4" TS (mono) jack, so that is why you only hear audio through the left side of your headphones when you connect the stereo plug to the mono output. The Hosa Technology GPP290 Monaural Male 1/4" Phone to Stereo Female 1/4" Phone Adapter (B&H # HOAPMSPF) will convert the stereo plug on your headphones to mono and that will allow you to hear mono audio through both sides of you headphones (same audio through both sides) when you connect the stereo headphones to the mixer's mono aux output. If you need to connect two sets of stereo headphones to the ZEDi-10FX, a better option would be to use a stereo splitter connected to the mixer's headphone output. The Hosa Technology 1/4" Male to Two 1/4" Female Y-Cable (B&H # HOYCSPM2SPF) will allow you to connect two sets of stereo headphones without sacrificing tone, volume or stereo separation. If you need to accommodate more than two sets of headphones, the best option is to use a separate headphone amplifier connected to the mixer's headphone jack. The Polsen HMA-41 4-Channel Stereo Headphone Amplifier (B&H # POHMA41) or the Mackie HM-4 4-Way Headphones Amplifier (B&H # MAHM4) are good options for this purpose. The headphone amplifier will give each user their own headphone jack as well as an individual volume control to set the volume level for their headphones fas desired.

Can the usb support usb wireless mics?

Can the usb support usb wireless mics?
Asked by: Ivan
Unfortunately this is not a supported function. If you were to plug a USB microphone directly into the USB port of the ZEDi-10FX, there would be no drivers available for either unit to function properly. Even though some USB devices can be plugged into some computers and function without any additional driver installations (typically computer's running macOS), the USB devices are still utilizing the computer's core audio drivers.

Thanks for the review man, I have question about MIDI recording. So can I play my MIDI keyboard thru this mixer only, with no usage of audio interface and have low latency?
Asked by: Igor
Unfortunately the ZED-10FX isn't capable of receiving or transmitting MIDI information.  The USB interface on the console can only be used to record or playback up to 4 channels of audio. If your keyboard does produce audio, then yes, you could use one of the stereo 1/4" inputs on the console to record that audio signal via USB.

Can the mix in the usb out of the ZEDi10 FX ...

Can the mix in the usb out of the ZEDi10 FX replace my iOS camera mic for live streaming? I have been using an Apple camera connector cable with no luck so far.
Asked by: Tracy
I am the person who asked the question. Here is the answer. You can do it but you lose two inputs. The iPhone camera automatically uses channels M1-M2 as it's audio inputs. In order to get the other inputs and fx into the camera audio, you have to patch the output of your mixer (the monitor outs worked for me) to the line in of M1 M2. That means you can't use them for microphone inputs. That is fine for my setup. If you are using phantom power, routing to the xlr in of M1 M2 could damage your unit. Anyway, it works. I can stream M3-M4-ST1 and ST2 directly to my iPhone 6s with FX. Well, no effects on ST2, but I mainly need the FX on my two mic inputs.
