Can the head come off for attachment elsewhere? And if so, is it a standard 3/8 inches screw? Quick clarification (just in case): By head head I mean the 496 Ball Head and not the custom Sony plate. Thanks!

What makes this specifically for Sony A cameras? I see that there is some plate. What does that do? Do other manfrotto tripods not work with my Sony A?
Other Manfrotto tripods will work with Sony alpha. This one is just designed specifically for them so the plate that sits atop the tripod fits perfectly on the bottom of alpha cameras and the color matches the orange that Sony uses on its cameras.
