Compact, lightweight, and close-focusing, the RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM from Canon is a unique wide-angle prime mixing the versatility of a general wide lens with the specialty of a 1:2 macro optic. An advanced optical design is benefitted by a Super Spectra coating, which helps to control flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy when working in bright or backlit conditions. Capable of focusing down to 6.7" at half life-size, this lens is ideal for photographing everything from close-ups of plants to street scenes and landscapes. The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture offers increased control over depth of field and also suits working in a variety of lighting conditions. Complementing this is a five stop-effective image stabilization, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Also, an STM motor affords impressively quiet and smooth autofocus performance and full-time manual focus override. Additionally, a configurable Control Ring lets you adjust exposure settings, including ISO, aperture, and exposure compensation, from the lens itself.

How well does this lens work for astrophotography? coma in the corners?
Asked by: Colin
You need to stop at F2.5 at least, maybe up to F3.2 to control coma. It also helps to so in order to reduce vignette. Also due to the short back-focus distance, it is difficult to find compatible clip-on filters.

no. you can put an EF lens on a RF camera with an adapter, but you cannot put a RF lens on a EF camera. the laws of physics would not allow it.

Why is this lens so slow in Video mode? Doesn't have time to focus on the child, even with all the fast tracking modes enabled (((
Asked by: Vadim
this lens was not made for video, it was made for photo. for faster focusing lenses, they cost more to produce, you will need to invest in the RF lenses with red rings on them.

How does this RF 35 mm f/1.8 macro STM lens on ...

How does this RF 35 mm f/1.8 macro STM lens on the Canon EOS RP compare in image quality, AF speed, etc. as compared to using the EF 35 mm f2 IS USM on the Canon EOS RP with the EF to RF adapter? I'm trying to decide between the two (irrespective of the macro)... just as a 35mm lens.
Asked by: Susan
The native lens will be much sharper and has the better macro focusing ability, less hunting and you have the built in light as well if needed.

The only time my Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM Lens is quiet is when my Canon RP is turned off, it sounds like maybe the IS is always spinning, shouldn't my lens be quiet when I am not taking pictures with it?
Asked by: James
It depends on your camera settings. You probably have Servo AF and/or Continuous AF turned on, which is why IS is always running. This could also happen in video mode.
