Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Digital Camera (Silver)

Few things will be too far away for the PowerShot SX740 HS Digital Camera from Canon. Boasting a 20.3MP CMOS sensor and 40x optical zoom, this all-in-one point-and-shoot captures things near and far. Helping the far end of its 24-960mm zoom range (35mm equivalent) is optical image stabilization which keeps your photos sharp and in focus. Zoom Framing Assistant makes it easier to track subjects at the long end of the focal length by quickly zooming out and then back in at the press of a button once you've located your subject. Canon's DIGIC 8 Image Processor helps the camera keep up with your shooting, allowing for 10-fps continuous shooting with AF lock on.

The 20.3MP sensor is also capable of 4K video and 4K time-lapse recording. Framing for videos and photos can be done via the 3.0" LCD screen on the rear of the device, which can tilt 180° for selfies. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allow you to connect the camera to your phone for editing and sharing photos using the Canon Camera Connect app.

  • 20.3MP CMOS sensor provides a wide ISO range for low-light shooting.

Such a great camera! What drew me was the 40x optical zoom, but still a point and shoot. I use it for architectural photography and it is great. Ordering from B&H was also great and easy. Came very very fast.

is there a remote for zoom?
Asked by: Cindy
No, however, you can use the iOS or Android apps to control/shoot remotely, and these apps will give you control over the camera's operation, including zoom. For more information, see the SX740's manual and the section/page 84-91 on "Remote live view shooting".

When buying the sx740 alone without the kit. Does it still comes with a disk and battery? Or I have to get them separately?
Asked by: Giang
The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Digital Camera with Accessories Kit (Silver) includes a 64GB SanDisk memory card and case that are not included with the base camera; a memory card would be needed separately. The base camera does include a battery, however.

Does this camera shoot time lapse?

Does this camera shoot time lapse?
Asked by: John
Check page 49 of manufacturer's "Camera User Guide" for time lapse. Technically, it is available, but you must have previous experience or knowledge about time lapse, to understand what to select for what occasion. You have full control over time lapse, but you do not have it already set in "Sunset", "Stars", "Cityscape", as it is in other cameras.

Will this camera take decent wildlife photos?
Asked by: Quinn
The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Digital Camera will take decent wildlife photos because of the 40x optical zoom. For even better-quality photos, I would recommend a 1-inch sensor bridge camera.

Does the Canon sx740 have Bulb setting for long exposures?
Asked by: George
The Canon SX740 HS does not have a Bulb setting for long exposures. It allows for a maximum exposure time of 15 seconds, which can be set in Manual (M) or Shutter Priority (Tv) modes, but it does not support the extended exposure capabilities that Bulb mode offers. Therefore, for longer exposures beyond 15 seconds, you would need to consider a different camera model that includes a Bulb mode feature.
