JVC's GY-HC500USPCU Handheld Connected Cam 1" 4K Professional Camcorder is a UHD 4K camcorder that shoots in both NTSC and PAL compatible frame rates and is designed to seamlessly work with both a traditional as well as IP workflows. It features both scoreboard and broadcast overlays, built-in GPS, and sports metadata tagging. The camera incorporates a 1" CMOS sensor and an integrated 20x optical zoom lens, and it can create a 40x digital zoom. The camera can capture in UHD, HD, SD, and you can record SD as proxy, recording up to 30p to the built-in media card slots or 60/50p to an optional SSD. The camera supports HDR by recording in HLG or JLog1 (10-bit).

Can this model only display sports overlays or can it also display more generic lower 3rd and full screen graphics for non sports live streams?
you can also add you own graphics designed in any design software, however, they need to be half HD resolutions, and be PNG files. Names them 01_filename, 02_filename, as the display function starts at number 1 and you only have a next button and off button. control is done with wireless or wired device. If wireless you need a USB antenna and a hotspot to bridge your device and camera.

The socreboard overlay is amazing. Since the camera is 4k is it safe to assume that the overlays record in both 1080 and 4k resolutions?
I just received this camera specifically to use the scoreboard in 4K. The scoreboard does NOT work when recording at 4K! It says plainly in the manual (and on their website) that this feature is only available at 1080p.

Are the Sports Overlays customizable? I.e.: Can I upload a template I've built in PhotoShop to the camera, or are the camera's templates the only option?
to be more specific, you can customize the team names, and logos, and i think background colors. You can make other graphics for lower thirds or full screen in PNG file formats. I'm honestly not sure if the sports overlay is the top layer meaning you could not cover up the sports graphic with a transparent PNG.
