Samson SWXPD2BLM8 Overview

The XPD2 Lavalier USB Digital Wireless System from Samson is a 2.4 GHz, portable wireless bodypack transmitter and lavalier microphone with a USB stick receiver. It can be used to capture audio for broadcast, presentation, and live sound applications and more.

The XPD2 offers simple setup, professional full-range audio, and 100' of wireless operation. The RXD2 USB stick receiver connects directly to Windows or Mac computers, or with any Samson Expedition Series portable PA system (sold separately) that features a USB wireless port. A 1/8" output allows for headphone monitoring or connection to any device with an analog line input, including smartphones and other mobile devices.

Furthermore, the XPD2 wireless system delivers audio via digital transmission, which enables the LM8 lavalier microphone and PXD1 bodypack transmitter to send uncompressed signal to the receiver. The result is greater signal-to-noise ratio when compared to a traditional wireless system, and a performance that sounds as good as using a wired microphone.

I can't even!

I have used this lav as the audio source for teaching video cooking classes from home, and I have always kept spare batteries on set in case the original pair dies... two AAs have kept this thing running since my original purchase of it in April, 2020, and I've done dozens of hours on it. Apart from battery life, it's easy to use, and once I adjusted the gain (checking it with my system and software for appropriate levels, which we should all do), it was great to know that it'd just work reliably. If you want something affordable for a small setup and aren't looking for studio-grade equipment, give this thing a try. I actually bought a second one for a class I was to co-host with a friend - it ends up just being a solo class but I'm keeping the second one anyway!

This little mic seemed to work great for the first few recordings, and then today, instantly, it just quit. Completely. I've tried connecting it to several different machines, PCs and Macs, and its dead dead. Of course, it waited until right after my purchase return window closed. :-(

Very good gear. I needed a replacement as I couldn't connect my Sennheiser lav to my new I-Pad anymore and this did the trick. Just used it a couple of times, but so far is working nicely. Obviously that you have to treat it with care as the components are not as sturdy as the more expensive ones, but that's a given due to the affordable price. I think it's a good trade off.

Am I correct to assume that the USB must be plugged into some sort of phone/PC device to record the sound? In other words does the USB receiver portion record the audio or does a connected device record the audio?

I have my USB receiver plugged into a Hub2, which in turn is plugged into my computer. I record the audio on my computer using any number of audio software programs.

Will this wireless system work with the CANON VIXIA HF R800 Camcorder?
Asked by: Frank
If the camcorder has an audio-in or microphone jack for sound input then technically yes, it will work. However you will need to provide power to the receiver through a USB source such as a battery for recharging phones, etc.. I will also point out that I had serious issues with the data transmission, with occasional drops after a few minutes of operation.

If I want to use this simply as a microphone for public speaking, do I need to buy anything else?
Asked by: Dean
This connects to your computer/laptop. As long as you can hook external speakers to your laptop it will work. But it doesn't work that well. I noticed lag time, changes in volume (probably due to moving around affecting the range) And this set up did not work well with other programs I had running. I had to stop and restart other programs while using this as public address. It works great for recording audio to your computer as long as you stay in range. It does not work well for anything else.

I have an ION bluetooth PA speaker that has a usb. will this work with that? does the mic pick up the sound and play it through the PA if I have the dongle plugged into the usb?
Asked by: Night
Hello, Thank you for contacting Samson Technologies. Unfortunately, I am uncertain that this system will work with your ION speaker. The XPD2 is designed to work with PC, Mac, Android and iOS devices and also has a pin connection inside that allows it to be recognized by our line of Expedition Portable PA's and other similar products in our brand. If you have any other questions or inquiries, please let me know at any time. Best Regards, James (Product Specialist)
