How can Zeiss justify the price of this lens accessory? Easy - IT WORKS! Permits fine, fast and accurate focusing for all of my macro photos. Worth the high price point. 100% satisfaction.
Excellent still-shots focus control for the Milvus 2/100M

I am a still-camera user (no video interest). I bought this only to give me extra ease and control over the very fine focus control grip of the Milvus series. I am not complaining - the Milvus line is extraordinary. But, those of you that own one understand the challenge needed to dial down to precise focus at very close distances. The minute challenges of constant focusing are rewarding but can get tiring quickly. The gear is an expensive add-on but I will say while expensive, it has given so much more ease to close/precision focusing it is hard to unrationalize the price. Gear is very well built. Excellent machining and anodizing. The twist-turn locking ring is silky smooth and allows placement along different areas of the lens length. I have mine mounted closer to the aperture ring. I dont need to see the distance scale. It can be moved forward toward the hood if desired. You will note by the photos that the Milvus 100 macro version of the gear is much wider than the other lens size varieties. This is because the extension of the Milvus macro lens is significant and wouldn't allow video focusing gizmo gears to stay engaged for much travel. Us still shooters don't care about that. Note also that the gear adds enough weight to the lens so keeping it closer to the camera body helps better balance the overall setup.
