Characterized by its fast and sophisticated optical design, the Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. from Panasonic is an 85mm equivalent prime for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. The fast f/1.2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also affords more control over focus position for producing shallow depth of field imagery. The lens's optical design employs a pair of aspherical elements, one UHR element, and one extra-low dispersion element to reduce both spherical and chromatic aberrations for improved sharpness and clarity. Additionally, a Nano Surface Coating also enhances contrast and color fidelity by reducing lens flare and ghosting.

Complementing the optical attributes, this lens also distinguishes itself with a POWER Optical Image Stabilizer, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. A stepping AF motor and internal focus design also offer fast and near-silent focusing performance that is ideal for both photo and video applications.

Portrait-length prime is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides an 85mm equivalent focal length.

Hands down the best MFT portrait lens

Buy it. Get yours before they stop making them. If you want the best, then this is it. Just phenomenal. For portraits, there is nothing better on micro four thirds. This lens on any Panasonic micro four thirds is the reason for going MFT. (I shoot/own Nikon D3/D3x/D4s/D810 - so yeah I love my 200f/2.0 on the D3x, but this is comparable and it's $15k less (sure used now $4k) and one tenth the size and weight.) Have a good one.

The Nikon 85mm was my favorite lens for my film camera. Now I enjoy this one. It does add some weight.

I'd like to address this to people like me who started out poor and are in better circumstances. I know all about compromising. I did it constantly for years. The law of diminishing returns is a real and inescapable thing. But after having exposed maybe four images with this lens I can tell you it's astonishingly good and if you're a professional or committed amateur who can afford it just for God's sake get it. There are pretty good alternatives-from Panny and Olympus both, and I'm sure others-but this is quite simply the best lens I've ever used and I've used scores of them. Wide-open sharpness, bokeh, contrast, it's all there. If you need or want the best portrait-length lens for the system, just for Christ's sake buy it. You won't regret it.

Tack sharp, creamy bokeh, beautiful color renditions (worth 5+ stars). However the frustration is the 'a la' Leica metal hood, and non locking [A] f/stop position that will easily move when using the lens. The hood should have been a quality resilient plastic, with a twist bayonet reversible mount. Further insult, is the plastic ring in the shade with a bad glue that will ooze when exposed to natural heat/warmth! The lock knob is just AWFUL.

This is the best of the dozen + MFT lenses I own.

Everything about this lens makes it an investment worth making. It has the fastest focus, best color, most clarity, and it's incredibly sharp even at 1.2. Solid construction and will last for decades. It really is a dream to work with. For me, the 30mm Sigma DN takes second place as far as prime lenses go. It's a better value for the $$, but use this lens in the field and you will know why it's 4x the price. It's truly a pleasure to operate.

I primarily use my M4/3 camera for vacation trips but this lens may force me to use it more for portraits. The focus is quick and precise with fantastic bokeh. I am used to using a full frame camera for my portraits but decided to see how this lens did with one of my poses. It is sharp and made the weeds behind them blend into a beautiful background. I highly recommend this lens.

This lens is all it was supposed to be. I am able to shoot handheld shots at F 1.2 in low light and get sharp results.

For some reason my BMPCC4K stopped to recognize ...

For some reason my BMPCC4K stopped to recognize the image stabilization and the F/1.2 (it reaches to F/1.3). Is this a common problem with the lens ? If yes is there any known fix about it ? If not, what would you suggest of me doing in order to solve the problem ?

This is not a common problem but the best course of action would be to make sure both the camera and the lens are updated to the most recent firmware and to be sure the pin connection is clean. If all of those have been done and the problem persists, it is most likely a problem with the mechanism in the lens.
