Celestron built their 8x42 TrailSeeker ED Binoculars to address the particular demands of hunters, birders, and outdoor enthusiasts. They deliver bright high-contrast images with accurate true-to-life color and crisp clarity even when observing from long distances. To achieve this optical performance, these binoculars feature anti-reflection fully multicoated extra-low dispersion (ED) glass with dielectric and phase-correcting coatings on the BAK4 prisms. A wide apparent angle of view not only presents an immersive observational experience to complement the impressive performance, it also allows you to take in sweeping vistas without having to move your head very much—making it ideal for everyone from stalking hunters, to sports fans watching a match on a large playing field.

Designed to stand up to a lifetime of outdoor use, their chassis is made of a lightweight and durable magnesium alloy that is also corrosion resistant to make it ideal for boaters. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make them waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperature or environmental conditions. Celestron includes tethered front and rear lens caps to add an additional layer of protection in the field, with the ability to quickly react to glassing opportunities without fear of losing the caps. Also included is a harness system that keeps the TrailSeeker binoculars close to your chest, so they won't hang and sway dangerously when you move over rough or rocky terrain. This redistributes their weight off your neck to your shoulders, making carrying it all day much more comfortable.

Optical Performance
  • Moderate 8x power magnifies the view while preserving a wide exit pupil and long eye relief to make viewing easier and more comfortable
  • 42mm objective lenses gather the light needed to ensure views remain bright and clear even in challenging light conditions
  • Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations to produce views with true color rendition without halos, diffraction, or distortion across the entire field of view
  • BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Dielectric prism coatings boost internal surface reflectivity to greater than 99% for maximum light transmission through the prism with minimal loss and diffraction and improved contrast and clarity
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast, clarity, and resolution
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated lenses maximize light transmission for bright and clear images with accurate color rendition
  • Wide 65° apparent angle of view helps to minimize the appearance of distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics
  • Expansive 426-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Closed-bridge configuration offers a stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Large slip-resistant center focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold or wet conditions, or when wearing gloves
  • ±3 right-eye diopter adjustment enables users to compensate for optical prescription for sharper views
  • Wide 56-74mm interpupillary adjustment range allows easy use by wide variety of people
  • Twist-up click-stop eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear, removable and replaceable
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibrations and arm fatigue
  • Long 17.2mm eye relief improves viewing comfort and reduces eyestrain during long glassing sessions
  • Wide 5.25mm exit pupil will cover pupils as they open and fully dilate in low light
Construction Details
  • Light and durable magnesium chassis
  • Rubber-armored exterior offers impact protection while providing a slip-resistant grip
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving though extreme temperature and environmental conditions
  • Tethered ocular and flip-down objective lens caps allow for fast reaction to glassing opportunities while keeping the caps out of the way and safe
  • Carrying harness keeps the binoculars close to the user's chest and prevents swaying when moving over rough or rocky terrain to ensure it is safe, while redistributing the weight off the neck to reduce strain

Celestron TrailSeeker ED 8x42 Reviews

bright and handy

I selected this item because the reviews were excellent and they particularly praised bright visual field. I found that the review was correct. It has bright visual field and very good resolution. I own a Nikon Aculon A211 (10X42) which I bought several years ago. I liked the Nikon, but it is bulky and heavy. Besides it has a shoulder strap that cannot be easily removed. In that regard this Celestron is much more compact, light and easy on arms and hands. The shoulder strap does not need to be attached. Particularly for in-door birds viewing we don't need any shoulder strap. The Celestron's resolution and magnification are about the same as those of the Nikon. I believe that price of the Nikon is much lower than this Celestron. So if one goes by price alone, I would choose the Nikon, but convenience-wise, this Celestron is better. In particular if a child is to use, this one is more handy, and easy to maneuver.

My Celestrons are incredible! I am now an avid bird watcher, both out the back window and in the field. As my attached photo shows, they are always right there, ready to chase a shadow or discern a distant species. The latest technologies involved with this model brighten the entire field, at times actually enhancing real time. I have used them to look through rain/snow distorted windows, fog, smoke...they are remarkable in defining focused subject matter, whether a few feet or a hundred yards away. I have used other manufacturer's glass for over half a century following wildlife, ocean going vessels and sports events. These are by far my favorite!

They feel great in my hands and offered clear views on an overcast, cold day. Looking forward to see how they perform in bright light.

This mfgr/model (with ED glass) is highly rated for bird watching by several online review sites. The image is sharp, bright, colors are accurate, and the field of view very wide. The bins have a comfortable grip, are light enough to hold at the eyes for an extended period of time, and the focus knob has smooth action with quick, accurate focusing. Top of the line bins can cost 8-10x as much (and probably worth it for a pro), but the image quality of these bins is nearly as good.

If you love to watch birds and wildlife this set of binocular's is just what you need. I am blown away by the clarity, and ease of use of this set. This set is well worth the extra money if you really want to enjoy bird and wildlife watching. Wish I had taken the plug years ago. Can not say enough good things about this set.

Does the Celestron Trailseeker ED come with a carrying case?
Asked by: Elisa
It's a good standard cordura nylon carrying case with a shoulder strap and is a good size, too. Bigger than the hard carrying case for the Celestron Regal 8x42 binoculars. I disagree that the quality is poor! Of all my binoculars, the only carrying case that is better is the case for my Swarovski 8.5x42 ELs. This case is equal to my Zeiss 8x42 Conquest HDs and better than the cases for my Meade 8x42 Master Class Pro EDs and my Kowa 8x42 Wide Angle binoculars. Poor Quality? No way!
