Celestron TrailSeeker ED 10x42 Overview

Celestron built their 10x42 TrailSeeker ED Binoculars to address the particular demands of hunters, birders, and outdoor enthusiasts. They deliver bright high-contrast images with accurate true-to-life color and crisp clarity even when observing from long distances. To achieve this optical performance, these binoculars feature anti-reflection fully multi-coated extra-low-dispersion (ED) glass with dielectric and phase-correcting coatings on the BAK4 prisms. A wide apparent angle of view not only presents an immersive observational experience to complement the impressive performance, it also helps to minimize the distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics such as these binoculars.

Designed to stand up to a lifetime of outdoor use, their chassis is made of a lightweight and durable magnesium alloy that is also corrosion resistant to make it ideal for boaters. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make them waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperature or environmental conditions. Celestron binoculars include tethered front and rear lens caps to add an additional layer of protection in the field, with the ability to quickly react to glassing opportunities without fear of losing the caps. Also included is a harness system that keeps the TrailSeeker binoculars close to your chest so they won't hang and sway dangerously when you move over rough or rocky terrain, while also redistributing its weight off your neck to your shoulders to make carrying them all day much more comfortable.

Optical Performance
  • High 10x magnification brings distant subjects in for close viewing and identification
  • 42mm objective lenses gather the light needed to ensure views remain bright and clear even in challenging light conditions
  • Extra-low-dispersion (ED) glass elements reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations to produce views with true color rendition without halos, diffraction, or distortion across the entire field of view
  • BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Dielectric prism coatings boost internal surface reflectivity to greater than 99% for maximum light transmission through the prism with minimal loss and diffraction and improved contrast and clarity
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast, clarity, and resolution
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated lenses maximize light transmission for bright and clear images with accurate color rendition
  • Wide 65° apparent angle of view helps to minimize the appearance of distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics
  • Spacious 340-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Closed bridge configuration offers a stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Large slip-resistant center focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold or wet conditions, or when wearing gloves
  • ±3 right-eye diopter adjustment enables users to compensate for optical prescription for sharper views
  • Wide 56-74mm interpupillary adjustment range allows easy use by wide variety of people
  • Twist-up click-stop eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear, removable and replaceable
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibrations and arm fatigue
  • Comfortable 15mm eye relief improves viewing comfort and reduces eyestrain during long glassing sessions
  • Wide 4.3mm exit pupil will cover most pupils as they open and dilate in low light
Construction Details

A hit

Bought these for my daughter, who is a committed (and fussy) birder. Her comments — New binocs weigh less, have a brighter and sharper image, and the focus wheel isn't battle. .... And they fog my glasses less. So, all in all, a massive hit.

Spent an unseemly amount of time researching binoculars before buying these for my fiance's birthday. They seemed like the best combination of options for the price point and a fair bit beyond. They are about the lighest in their class and have the widest field of view of any of the other 10x42s that I found. That part really helps especially when seeking out smaller subjects like birds. Other binoculars I tried had a hazy appearance unless the light was perfect these ones are much more forgiving for use under tree cover or on cloudy days. There's long eye relief and a good grip. It would be nice to have a higher quality case at this price point. My Nikon prostaff 3s cost less than half the price and have a nicer case. But, you're not buying these for the case you're buying them for the excellent optics and for that they are a perfect choice I would definitely buy Celestron trailseekers again. They may have spoiled me for anything lower quality. B&H shipped quickly and I had them in time for my partner's birthday and she loves them even more than I do.
