Glyph Technologies GLTB3DOCK Reviews

Remove the plastic surrounding the cable connector.

Excellent craftsmanship and performance. The SD card slot connection in all my external docks from various name brands are finicky. I think its an OS or computer hardware issue, this Glyph models seems less finicky. It does get quite warm.

One of the best Thunderbolt 3 docks with NVME SSD storage.

I got this unit on 06/2020 with 2TB NVME SSE pre-installed and so far, the dock works perfectly. It is connected to my computer (2017 MacBook-pro) via Thunderbolt3 using the 85watt USB-C port and to my Photographer Monitor (BenQ SW321C) through the other USB-C port. The computer is able to recognize both devices without problems, the Reading and Writing speeds of the NVME SSD ranges between 1000Mb/s to 1200Mb/s (I don’t know who is the manufacturer of the disk). The Audio and Mic work fine.  The unit is metallic, solid, with a sturdy black, very nice.   The only complaint that I have is that when it is in idle mode (the computer is sleeping) you can notice a mild acute noise (high-frequency buzzing). I have been reading about it and it seems that the noise is generated from the processor's power circuit when is in C3 or deep sleep (clock-stopped or sleep) power state, which is caused by a phenomenon referred to as the Piezoelectric Effect. So, the noise is normal and does not affect the performance, as soon as you turn on the computer or start using the unit the noise disappears. I really recommend this dock and the price is acceptable.

Outstanding dock (just remove small plastic insert)

This dock is outstanding! It unfortunately has received poor reviews, though, because of a problem that is very easy to resolve. On the back of the dock, there is a plastic insert that surrounds two Thunderbolt 3 ports (including the port that connects to your computer). This insert keeps the cable from securely fastening, making the computer connection quite unstable. However, this plastic piece is easy to remove, and with it off, the cable connection is solid. Since removing this piece, I have not experienced any connection drops. I ordered the 2 Terabyte SSD version, and its read and write speeds are consistent with the advertised specs. It writes at close to 1,100Mb/sec and reads at over 1,300Mb/sec.

Avoid

Drive works but USB is extremely unreliable. Sometimes it functions at half speed, other times it disconnects completely (note the card readers and audio are connected via the USB bus so they break at the same time). Not sure if this is an isolated incident. I opened a ticket on the support page and no one replied. I reached out to tech support and no one replied. Finally I reached out to customer support and received a response the next day saying tech support was opening a ticket. They asked me to resend all the details I had already submitted, claiming their system was “finicky”. I sent everything again, and 9 days later I still have not received any response.

Does Not Work

I have 2 of these and 2 brand new MBPs. They do not work together. If you have a new Mac find another solution, this one is a non-starter. I've invested thousands of dollars on this working as advertised and it does not. Now my time is wasted as well as my money.

using for video editing, ProRes 4K 422 without hiccups! It is significantly faster that anything I have. It is well made, metal case, high quality. I wish it had an on/off button as I have to unplug it to switch off. Overall, great product.

Sorry to show my ignorance here, but how do I run 2 displays from a single DP port? any cables/adapters provided?

You can daisy chain multiple monitors using only one cable on one DisplayPort 1.2 Output and then one short cable between each DisplayPort 1.2 monitors. On most DisplayPort 1.2 video card, CPU integrated graphics or laptop port you can connect up to 4 monitors running at resolution of 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200 The Maximum number of monitors that you can daisy-chain to one DisplayPort 1.2 MST Is broken down by monitor resolution): Daisy chaining is the act of connecting many monitors using only one cable on one DisplayPort 1.2 Output and then one short cable between each DisplayPort 1.2 monitors. I can’t post the resolution table here as a pic but do a search for daisy chain monitors on DP 1.2 and you can find the info
