  • 1Description

Comprising the essentials needed to begin shooting, the Nikon Z 6 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 24-70mm Lens and Accessories Kit from B&H bundles the sleek full-frame mirrorless body and NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S standard zoom lens with a memory card, 72mm UV and circular polarizer filters, and a protective camera bag.

  • Nikon Z 6 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 24-70mm Lens

Part of Nikon's next step in their imaging journey, the Z 6 Mirrorless Camera is positioned as the "all-arounder" within the new Z System. Beginning with the Z Mount itself, a large-diameter design with a short 16mm flange distance allows Nikon to create compact, yet powerful cameras and develop more advanced optics. The Z 6 is among the first in the series, and features a high-performing FX-format 24.5MP BSI CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 6 Image Processing Engine delivering outstanding image quality and speed with a native sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200.

On the sensor you will find an advanced phase-detect autofocus system using 273 points covering 90% of the image area, and the sensor features 5-axis Vibration Reduction technology for stabilized photos and video regardless of the lens used. This advanced hybrid AF system will also benefit video. The Z 6 features UHD 4K recording at up to 30p and can use the N-Log gamma profile along with the camera's 10-bit HDMI output to create cinema-quality video.

As with many mirrorless systems, the Z Series boasts a much more compact form factor than its DSLR counterparts. The Z 6 is no exception with its slimmed down design and lighter build, though it maintains the weather sealing and ergonomics for which Nikon is known. The camera features multiple displays and screens for ease of use, including a 0.80x 3.6m-dot EVF with NIKKOR optics and a Fluorine coating, ensuring clear viewing. The rear of the camera is equipped with a 3.2" 2.1m-dot tilting touchscreen LCD while the top offers a dot-matrix OLED for quickly checking settings. For storage, the Z 6 has a single XQD card slot that is compatible with CFexpress for faster speeds in the future. Additionally, the body is equipped with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

    Nikon Z System
Introducing the Z mount, Nikon's full-frame mirrorless system promises to deliver class-leading image quality and optics in a compact form factor. The Z mount itself makes much of this possible with a 17% larger inner diameter than the F mount, enabling the use of more advanced optics and lens designs, including ultra-fast f/0.95 options. For minimizing camera and lens size, the Z mount features a 65% shorter flange distance, measuring just 16mm, which allows for dramatically slimmed down body designs. The larger mount also supports faster and larger-volume communications between the body and lens to improve overall performance throughout the system.
24.5MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor and EXPEED 6 Processor
A 24.5MP BSI CMOS sensor is used for all-around shooting, impressive low-light quality, and fast readout speeds to benefit continuous shooting, movies, and time-lapse recording. The back-illuminated design of the sensor affords noticeably cleaner high-sensitivity output for reduced noise when working at high ISO values, up to a native ISO 51200, as well as vivid and smooth quality at sensitivities as low as ISO 100. Benefitting the sensor is the apt EXPEED 6 image processor, which affords a wealth of speed throughout the camera system, including the ability to shoot continuously at 12 fps in raw.
    4K UHD Video Recording
Utilizing the sensor and processor attributes for more than just still imagery, the Z 6 is also a more-than-capable multimedia camera. Video recording is possible at UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) using either the full-frame area or a DX crop area in 30p, 25, or 24p frame rates. Full HD 1080p video recording is also supported at up to 120p for slow motion playback, and video files can be saved to the in-camera memory cards or as an uncompressed file to an optional external recorder via HDMI out.

Advanced video functionalities have been added with the Z 6. This includes the N-Log gamma for capturing flat-looking footage that maximizes dynamic range. Other additions are the ability to output high-quality 10-bit data over HDMI and an Electronic VR function for smooth handheld shooting. Focus Peaking can be used to benefit manual focus control and a Zebra Stripes option is also available to help detect over-exposed areas within the frame. Audio recording can be handled using the built-in stereo microphone or an optional external mic can be added via the 3.5mm stereo jack for greater control over quality, and live monitoring is possible via the headphone jack.
    273-Point Phase-Detect AF System
Located on the sensor is an array of 273 phase-detect autofocus points covering 90% of the image area both vertically and horizontally. This provides fast and accurate focusing for both stills and video and with a wide coverage area, subject tracking will work out to near the edges of the frame. Hybrid AF is available for video, which will automatically switch between phase- and contrast-detect systems to provide smooth focus during shooting. Additionally, the latest NIKKOR Z lenses are optimized for silent operation.
    Body Design
    • Built-in to the body is a 5-axis sensor-shift Vibration Reduction mechanism for up to 5 stops of stabilization regardless of the lens used. This system also works with adapted lenses when using the optional FTZ Adapter where 3-axis stabilization is used.
    • A large 3.2" 2.1m-dot LCD screen is available for bright, clear, and vivid image playback and live view shooting. The screen has a tilting design to benefit working from both high and low angles, and it is also a touchscreen for more intuitive operation, navigation, and settings control.
    • A 3.6m-dot electronic finder is present for comfortable eye-level viewing. It has a high 0.80x magnification and uses NIKKOR optics to guarantee a sharp, clear image. The finder also has a Fluorine coating for easier cleaning.
    • The top panel of the Z 6 is configured with a dot-matrix OLED. This low-energy display provides quick access to important camera settings.
    • Configured with one XQD memory card slot, the camera will be able to quickly save images. The slot is compatible with CFexpress, enabling support for future media.
    • A robust magnesium-alloy chassis is both dust- and weather-resistant to benefit working in harsh climates and inclement conditions.
    • The ergonomic grip and overall form factor is shaped to benefit handling for extended periods of time and is further accentuated by an anti-slip material and a joystick for seamless settings and focus point selection.
    • Built-in SnapBridge connectivity to enable seamless transfer of low-resolution imagery as well as remote shooting capabilities. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi enables communication between the camera and a smart device and, additionally, the mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter and display a live view image from the camera to enable working from a distance.
    • Included EN-EL15b rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 310 shots per charge, and in-camera charging is supported. This camera is also compatible with EN-EL15 and EN-EL15a batteries, however do not support in-camera charging.
    NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S Lens
Included with the camera body is the standard zoom NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens, which covers a wide-angle to portrait-length range and features a constant f/4 maximum aperture. The optical design incorporates one aspherical element as well as a unique aspherical extra-low dispersion element; both of which help to greatly reduce a variety of aberrations and distortion for high sharpness and accurate color rendering. A Nano Crystal Coating is also used to control flare and ghosting for increased contrast in strong lighting conditions. Suiting both photo and video applications, a stepping AF motor is also featured for smooth, near-silent autofocus performance.

  • Luminesque 72mm Circular Polarizer and UV Slim PRO Filter Kit

Combining two of the most useful filters available, Luminesque's 72mm Circular Polarizer and UV Slim PRO Filter Kit is well-suited to all forms of photography. Both filters are constructed from Schott optical glass and feature a 12-layer multi-coating for maintained clarity and image quality. Each filter is also set in an anodized aluminum filter ring, with the UV filter featuring a slim 3.4mm-thick profile to lessen the likelihood of vignetting with wide-angle lenses.

The UV filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. It is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times in order to reduce dust and moisture from reaching the front lens element and to provide additional protection in case of accidental impacts. Its 12-layer multi-coating also helps to achieve 98.2% light transmission for faithful color reproduction and contrast.

The circular polarizer filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage, as well as clearer imagery when photographing in hazy conditions. A circular polarizer differs from a linear polarizer in that it supports full use of a camera's autofocus and auto exposure functions.

    Luminesque PRO
    • Constructed from Schott optical glass for maintained image quality and clarity.
    • A 12-layer multi-coating helps to reduce surface reflections and glare for improved contrast and color neutrality.
    • Anodized aluminum filter rings feature a knurled top edge for easier installation and removal.
    UV Slim Filter
    • Absorbs UV light and reduces bluish cast of daylight for greater image clarity.
    • Clear filter provides no additional coloration or contrast, allowing you to pair this filter with others.
    • Works as general protection filter to reduce dust, moisture, and scratches from reaching the front lens element.
    • 12-layer multi-coating helps to realize a high light transmission rate of 98.2%.
    • Slim filter ring incorporates front threads and measures 3.4mm-thick to lessen the likelihood of vignetting when used on wide-angle lenses.
    Circular Polarizer Filter
    • Reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
    • Arrange and filter directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
    • Lessens haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
    • Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.

Nikon Z6 Reviews

Z 6 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 24-70mm Lens and Accessories Kit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 109.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from MUCH BETTER THAN THE REVIEWS I have used the Z6 for 4 weeks and its BETTER than most reviews.  Easy controls, solid feel, GREAT image quality, better than good autofocus.  Not a D500 for Wildlife but solid images of non flight birds.  Excellent portraits.... I probably will use it as my number 1 camera.  I own Fujifilm xt3, (Z6 better controls), Nikon D500 (my sports & wildlife camera) & D850 (Z6 fits my use better than D850. I know that sounds crazy but that whats makes us all different).  I dont use any of my cameras for video....  Good to above average battery life for a mirrorless camera.  Lightroom now has added the Z6 so .nef files can be converted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The New Standard!!!! Never a believer in Mirrorless, until my home team jumped on board the Tech boat..have been a Long time Nikon user worked with many camera bodies, but this is something else. Im a technology buff and this Z6 is wonderful, Im in love all over again THANKS NIKON...Im not going to go and on with specs. But this is smoothest operation on a camera body I have ever seen, start with F mount BUT you need to experience Z mount for yourself Truly amazing optics, Focus and operational splendor...Love LOVE LOVE!!!! and for video there is nothing better...and its only going to get better with new updates May 2019! Go B & H...Ive been a customer for over 35 years

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Camera After living with a D5000 for 10 years I decided to make the move to a full frame mirror-less.  Best decision I ever made (camera-wise).  With this camera you can shoot full manual mode with complete confidence.  I shoot a lot of horse shows and the focus is spot-on tracking over the jumps.  Even though the camera I was using before was an entry-level DX from ten years ago the menu system in the Z6 felt comfortable from the start and the button locations on the camera were easy to adjust to within the first day or two.  Wish it had the auto-eye focus of some of the other models for portraiture but honestly for 95% of what I do the Z6 is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera! Last fall I followed the breakout of this camera, I have a Nikon  camera that I got back in 05. I am by no means a pro, but I love to the hobby.I decided to make the plunge on the Z6. The build quality great, the touch scene is very easy to use.If you watch a couple U-Tube videos they will make understanding the new camera easy. The touch screen has a great look and is very informative.I love the ability to custom set the buttons and controls, you gotta love technology ! The Z6 is all the camera the average photographer will ever need and more. I would highly recommend you make the purchase  , not cheap , but you get what you pay for! Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Option for Hybrid Shooters - Night Photography & Video I am primarily a night photographer. OK, well I was 100% a night photographer with my D750 since video wasnt so great with that body. With the Z 6, I can have the same or better quality with High ISO / long exposure still photography PLUS in-camera 4K video. Why does that matter to me? Gosh, I go such wonderful places, it would be a crime to not make some video of it, too. And I also am an educator, so creating both free and for-pay videos is something I want to do to grow my business. So with a Z 6, my F Series lenses (for now...) and an Atomos Ninja V, I am ready to do ALL of the things I want to do. And that matters to me very much. I am very happy. Delighted that Nikon made the camera that fits my current needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mirror-less has won me over Initial review after two weeks. I have used the camera to shoot three concerts. Quite impressive out of the gate. I love the brightness of the electronic viewfinder. When compared to my D750/D800 at shows it feels like I can see in the dark. My only two quibbles at this point: 1. Cost of XQD cards (Sonly licensing) 2. The electronic viewfinder takes 2-3 seconds to light up after going to sleep. This can cause you to miss a shot. I have to dig through the settings to see if I can disable that. I have it paired most frequently with a Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR1 and a Sigma ART 35mm 1.4. Photos added for your review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional clarity Have 30 years experience with Nikon professional-level cameras. Photos taken with the Z6 are as sharp as, if not sharper than, those taken with my D800 and D4s using the same lenses. While many controls on the Z6 are very similar to those of a D800/ D4s, getting used to the differences takes a little time.  Would recommend having one extra charged battery for every hour of extensive photoing - the camera does seem to use up battery life faster than D800/D4s.  The Z6 is certainly smaller and much lighter than D800/D4s.    The attached photos, one cropped and one as taken - were taken with the Z6, 600mm F4 lens, TCIII 1.4 teleconverter, gimble head, and tripod.  The birds were at the top of an 80 ft tree.  The tree was approximately 200 yards distant.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, light, and my Nikon glass works great with the adapter I pre-ordered this camera and adapter combo hoping it would arrive in time for a long planned trip end-December to Mid-January. It arrived around the end of November and I did some test shot and was very happy.  Took it on my trip through Malaysia, Singapore, and New Zealand instead of my heaver D800, with the 28-300 and 24/f1.4 glass I already have. With a couple of caveats, I was pleased with the performance. Battery life isnt great, but since it uses the same battery as the D800 I took a spare. But if you dont have another EL15, I would order an extra one for it.  Biggest issue is the wandering focus spot. I had to keep re-centering it. Only 4-stars because of that. Hopefully Nikon will come out with a firmware fix soon.

I have the Z6 and the XQD card. It imports my RAW ...

I have the Z6 and the XQD card. It imports my RAW files into Lightroom with no problem, but it will only import the JPEG files into Aperture on my MAC and not the RAW files. Any idea why? Is Aperture not useable with the Nikon RAW files from the Z6? It works fine for the RAW files from my D810 and D800.
Asked by: Anna
The problem is Aperture (and possibly your computer working in conjunction with Aperture) does not have the new drivers needed to open the RAW files created by the Z camera. Unfortunately, those drivers will not be forthcoming. Aperture support by Apple was dropped in 2014 and now after Mojave, the application itself will not work at all on Apple computers. Apple recently announced this. See link. We, as well as Apple, strongly suggest you migrated your Aperture Library to Lightroom Classic ASAP. Lightroom Classic has an import function made for Aperture and I personally recommend that.

does the adapter change the focal length ?

does the adapter change the focal length ?
Asked by: mark
No, the adapter is essentially a hollow tube "spacer" that provides the proper spacing and diameter for the Nikon DSLR lenses to work on the Z6/Z7. The new lenses being designed just for these mirrorless cameras will have a wider diameter for the mounting but will need to be mounted closer to the sensor than the DSLR lenses. Nothing about the lenses change (except non AF-S lenses without a built-in focus motor will have to be manually focused on the Z6/Z7 at present).

Is the Z7 worth the extra money over the Z6?

Is the Z7 worth the extra money over the Z6?
Asked by: William
It would simply depend on your usage needs. If you are looking for the mirrorless option from Nikon that has the maximum amount of image resolution, then yes, the Nikon Z7 Mirrorless Digital Camera would be the better option, as it has 45.7 megapixel resolution FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor and 493 autofocus points, compared to the 24.5 megapixel resolution FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor and 273 autofocus points. The smaller sensor Nikon Z7 allows you to have a faster maximum burst rate at 12 frames per second (versus 9 frames per second on the Z7), and allows you to capture oversampled 4K video. The other differences would be ISO range, 8K timelapse with the Z7 (only 4K timelapse with the Z6), slightly better battery life with the Nikon Z7, and price. If you are shooting video and do not need maximum image resolution, the Z6 may be the better option.
