Its G Master design prioritizes both sharpness and bokeh quality and the lens also sports fast autofocus capabilities and a durable build quality.

Fast Design and Advanced Optics

  • As part of Sony's esteemed G Master series, this lens is designed to achieve notably high resolution and sharpness through the correction of a wide variety of spherical and chromatic aberrations.
  • Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers a wealth of control over focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.
  • Rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
  • One XA element is incorporated into the optical design, which features superior surface precision for effective control over astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other spherical aberrations.
  • Two extra-low dispersion elements, including one Super ED element, are featured in the lens design and help to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
  • A Nano AR Coating has been applied to reduce surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast and color rendering in strong lighting conditions.

Fast and Accurate AF

  • XD Linear Motor system and internal focus mechanism provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance and also contributes to more natural, intuitive manual focus control.
  • Minimum focusing distance of just 2.3' renders a 0.25x maximum magnification for working with close-up subjects.
  • Two customizable focus hold buttons are present on the lens barrel for intuitive tactile control and rapid access to select settings.

Weather-Sealed Construction and Intuitive Handling

  • Physical aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture switching to benefit video applications.
  • Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures.
  • Fluorine-coated front element resists dust, moisture, and fingerprints and is easy to clean.

This lens has remained on my camera since it arrived. My absolute favorite lens. Fast and sharp!

This is the best. It's very sharp and beautiful bokeh. I own 55 (lighter) but when I shoot portraits with the 135 I really love the images quality. Between 70-200 and 135 I will pick 135.

The best Sony has to offer

This is undoubtedly one of those lenses that you have to use once and fall in love with. This, combined with a 24mm f/1.4 GM and 50mm f/1.2 GM forms my own trifecta and is used weekly for all my shots. the 135mm probably has the best optical quality, accuracy and sharpness edge to edge. The other consideration was the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art. However, if the Sony is going to be your primary portrait lens, it worth investing in for a long time. If the choice is between a 85mm and a 135mm, I like the 135mm much more for outside portraits. For indoors, the 50mm is my usual go to lens.

This lens is magic

This is the lens I leave permanently attached to my Sony A1. The compression, sharpness, and rendering quality are unparalleled. While sometimes the focal length is difficult to work with for larger groups, it's worth it if you have the space to back up. I've even used it for a family photo shoot with 10 total people.

Amazingly sharp. Great lens a tad heavy but worth the weight.

I had very high hopew for this and it certainly didn't disappoint. The image quality via sharpness is just astounding. Really fast focus speed as well as great build quality. I love the fact that it has an aperture ring built around it plus the choice to control it click or clickless for video. A must have for high end portrait work as well as stunning HD video production.

Very sharp. Great for concerts, portraits, and street photography (if you don't want to be obvious). Highly recommend.

This lens truly is one of the most amazing lenses you can buy. Not only is it phenomenal for portraits, but it's a fantastic faux-macro due to its ability to be much closer to a subject than other long primes on the market. This lens is so versatile, clean, and beautiful. You absolutely will not regret owning it!
