Godox V1 Overview

Offering a powerful 76Ws output along with a distinct design, the Godox V1 Flash is an advanced light source with features that clearly reflect the current state of the industry. Compatible with Pentax P-TTL, this flexible on-camera light is distinguished by its round head, which provides soft, smooth light with gradual fall off that augments the flattering output. The head rotates 330 degrees, tilts -7 to 120°, and has a magnetic surface for lightning-fast attachment of Godox's accessory light modifiers.

The V1 is powered by a removable 2600mAh lithium-ion battery that will give you up to 480 full-power flashes on a charge, so you don't miss any of the action. Speaking of speed, the V1 recycles to full power in just 1.5 seconds, fast enough to keep up with your subject. It also supports High Speed Sync up to 1/8000 sec, for managing bright backgrounds and shooting with wide apertures, and the V1 supports front and rear-curtain sync.

The V1 has an optical slave but it's also got a built-in 2.4 GHz receiver, which accepts wireless signals from Godox X System transmitters. In fact, you can control up to four wireless groups in a master/slave configuration whereby settings made on the V1 are duplicated on the slave flashes. Other convenience features include an AF assist lamp, a 3200K LED modeling lamp, and a 2.5mm port for cabled triggering.

Versatile

Snap on, snap off. Only suggestion is to gaffer tape the bounce card to the holder. Twice, mine flew off, one was found, the other lost. I love that they all snap together.

My Second V1

After having purchased a V1 previously I decided I need to have a second. I am using the second for portrait work and for shooting Roller Derby off camera. As always the package arrive early and with no damage. I love the soft flash and once I figure out how to and what soft box to use I will be trouble.

One of the best features is the rechargeable battery - already ordering a second to keep with my kit. Communicates well with the camera & produces clean crisp flashes. Have yet to test the burst features with the flash.

Brilliant

I have used one of these with my Lumix G9, but when I upgraded to a Z6ii, had to buy a new one. Over all the years I have used the old one, I never managed to run out of power, and it just worked brilliantly. Very simple, works well on or off camera. I bought the accessories kit, and use the dome cover a lot, it softens the light noticeably.

Finally, an i-TTL flash that works with my Z6 II! Works without issue, always exposes right, as long as I don't have any dumb settings. For best results, use Manual mode on camera, scroll ALL the way past Bulb shutter speed for x/200 mode so it can sync with the flash and set the shutter speed to Auto FP in the flash custom settings.

No hard shadows in background

I haven't had the chance to use this very much yet, so I can't give too much detail on specific usage at this point, but I work for a newspaper so often have the need for flash in indoor settings. What I like best so far is that it gives a much softer edge...I'm not getting that awful hard shadow behind people when shooting at presentations, etc. Haven't had a chance to use to for sports yet, but looking forward to it now.

How can I secure this flash unit in a bracket to put into a softbox on a lightstand?
Asked by: Out d'Box
Most softboxes that are made for shoe mount flashes will come with the necessary speed ring by which to attach the flash to a stand. The Westcott Rapid Box Switch Octa-S Softbox 26" B&H # WE2521 and Westcott Rapid Box Switch / Beauty Dish Switch Insert for Profoto A1 Flash B&H # WE2540 would be some suitable options for you to use. https://bhpho.to/2Jb1OnJ https://bhpho.to/30aSnu6
