As the name "Switch" hints, Westcott has introduced a line of softboxes designed for setup and rapid swapping out of different brands of strobes and speedlights in seconds. The 36" Rapid Box Switch Octa-M Softbox with FJ400/Bowens Insert is a good choice for use in the studio or on location for head and shoulders portraits, fashion, advertising, or corporate work. The large surface area of the softbox gives its output a wraparound quality especially when used close up. Another benefit is the reflection of natural-looking catchlights in your subject's eyes. As indicated in the name, the softbox has a basic ring to hold it together, but instead of full speed rings, 13 "inserts" are available and are required for a speedlight or specific brand of strobe. The quick release thumb-lock on the Rapid Box Switch ensures the security of your light. Besides the benefit of speed, the softbox is structurally sound with durable metal framework, heat-resistant fabric, and a reflective silver interior that maximizes your light source's output. The Rapid Box Switch Octa's diffusion material has also been thoroughly tested and found to be neutral, ensuring a true rendition of color. This version of the softbox comes with an insert that fits FJ400 and Bowens flash heads. A carry case is included for storage and transport.

Westcott Switch Octa-M Reviews
Quick and easy softbox
I purchased the FJ400 kit which includes the Rapid Box Switch Octa-S. I wanted a larger softbox for large group shots. The Octa-M is easy to setup and use. I especially like the internal light baffle to give an even appearance.
I love this modifier
I love this modifier. This is a solid 36 Octa modifier. Double-diffused light. Gives me great control to feather light when needed. A key modifier for my home portrait business, a real work horse.
Switch between Speedlight and Elinchrom Quadra
Slowly switching over to the Westcott Rapid Box Switch Softboxes. I bought Speedlight and Elinchrom Quadra Flash Heads adapters for two of Westcott Softboxes. Not quite as easy to switch mostly due to my fingers are getting old, but each adapter is well built and fits the light its was made for. The speed light adapter works for both my Canon and Quantum flashes. Makes setup time for portable studio much faster with my Elinchrom Quadra Flash Heads. Shooting in a breeze by the ocean was. Everything felt secure and performed quite well, on a mono pod that was easy for my assistant to move as directed. Only got a few shots with the light in frame as we moved for the next shot. There is a thumb screw to adjust how easy the softbox is to spin on the adapter and you can easily lock it down. One set of Softboxes that can pop open and fit securely to whichever flash I need to use for a given situation. No More "Speedrings" adapters and building softboxes that take so long to setup, well they will just stay at home assembled.
High quality great results
The Westcott RB Switch Octa-M is a high-quality modifier that conveniently collapses down to a low profile, transportable size, and is easy to put up and take down. The Bowens adapter fits a little loose in the FJ400 but it is insignificant. This is a great purchase and a valuable tool.
Easy to Setup
I got this for the Profoto B10X Plus. After looking at Profoto's offerings for softboxes/octaboxes, I didn't like the look of the speed ring style setup. It is very clumsy to setup. This thing snaps open in 2 seconds and works great. I just peal back a small portion of the front diffuser, reach my arm in, and push it open. Just as easy to close.
Love this with FJ400
Easy to use and provides beautiful soft light.
Great Setup
Have had the 24 for several years and wanted the same setup offering a bit wider light. Got it in time for a headshot session, and it was the perfect -- offering beautiful light with ease of setup and easy to transport.
What a difference!
I have been running bounce back umbrellas with diffusers and the light from those has a hot spot in the middle giving poor reflections in eyes. I also wants expecting such a smooth and controlled light for portraits, these gave much better light to the subjects and the effect was immediately noticeable. Kicking myself I didn't buy sooner.
