Westcott Flex Cine Bi-Color Reviews
Awesome Travel Kit
So, I didn't 100% realize this wasn't the full size Peter Hurly kit. I think they advertise it plenty, I just bought it in a rush. The kit is awesome, but make SURE you don't want the full studio kit that has 2 1x3's and 1 1x2' vs the kit here which has 3 1x2's. I ended up ordering the two 1x3's separately, so I have a full studio kit.
Great concept but flimsy and with faulty connections
I live in Ecuador and was extremely excited to test in this stunning piece of equipment in the Amazon jungle. However, within minutes upon unboxing and connecting the mat to the dimmer and to the corresponding power source, the mat would not stay on for longer than 42 seconds. Upon examination of the dimmer, I discovered that several internal components were not properly connected and some were even broken. I tried to fix some of the issues in the dimmer myself and actually succeeded. Then, I discovered an additional faulty connection within the 9-prong connector of the mat itself. Since I could not solve that second issue myself, I took the whole set to a specialist for diagnosis, but even the specialist has not been able to fix it, although he does tell me that it does not look like the whole rig can withstand work in the field and discouraged me to even use it outdoors. The Westcott team replied promptly and told me they would gladly receive the whole rig to fix it. Although I appreciate the offer, sending this back to the US would imply major shipping costs from and to Ecuador again, and even then, I would be left without a lighting gear for months with no guarantee that they could fix it. Just make sure to request the gear to be tested before they ship it, especially if you live outside the US.
