Inovativ Voyager 36 Reviews

So far so good. Looks like they made some improvements.

Some colleagues got these when they first came out. I was unimpressed with how well they aged. Still took a chance on it when the price dropped. Innovativ has made many small design changes throughout that will probably last longer. They changed how the poles lock upright, and how the top shelf attaches when packed. I do hope the wheel brakes last longer.

Bigger than I thought but perfect for my needs

This Voyager 36 EVO cart is big and heavy, and exactly what I was looking for. It allows me to carry my audio gear, tripods, c-stands, lighting, and other miscellaneous stuff in one trip from our van, and that was a huge factor in why I chose it. I had been looking at a bunch of options, including YaegerPro and some smaller/cheaper carts. What sold me is the combination of the quick deploy-ability, size, adjustable height for different cases, carrying capacity, professional look and reviews from other users. I don't plan to mount a monitor on this cart but am happy to have the option should I change my mind. It's very well made, the instructions to assemble are clear, and I hope the durability is there. Only time and use will tell. I'm excited to get it into the field and see how it handles in the real world.

Best cart compared to other brands.

Other than Inovativ Voyager, I was also considering other brands such as Proaim victor 1.1 and Adicam as the price saving was quite significant. The reason why I decided to bite the bullet and go for Voyager is the speed of setup, teardown and weight. In comparison, voyager EVO is significantly lighter. Other systems requires the screwing of various knobs after placing the shelf or the 4 poles. Proaim 4 poles needs to be removed when dismantling as it is a non flip design and its top shelf requires 2 man to install. This is a big flaw IMO as I always work in small team or alone. Adicam poles are also not aligned corner to corner with 2 poles closer than the other 2. This will cause alignment issues as I want to install clamps to hold lightstands on the long side of the cart. The cart locking system is also based on Inovativ old design. Voyager top shelf height could also be adjusted and increased to hold more cargo at the bottom shelf. This is something not possible for the other brands. The last thing I want is to spend money on a cart which will frustrate and slow me down especially when I need to setup and teardown multiple times in a day. Pay peanut get monkey, buy cheap buy twice. I see this as a long term investment which I could easily use over 10-15 years and is well worth the money.

It's lit.

Fantastic cart. I use it as my DIT cart on commercial shoots in NYC. Works like a dream. Only thing I wish it had was some more expandability on the corners like you have with the Apollo cart. I'd like to have some baby pin options. But all can be done with after-market parts!

One of those purchases that you cry once making - but it pays itself back in dividends. Time is money and this is a time-saver, not to mention a back-saver.

Big improvement over previous version.

I think this size is the best compromise. It's called a 36 but this one is actually almost 40 including the handle. Adjustable top shelf height is a nice feature.

Disappointing quality for the price

The ugly details no one talks about. Its HEAVY. When trying to move this in packed travel mode, and there are no big easy grip handles you understand why this is hard. end handles would help and I may add a set on. This ver has steel wheels vs next model up with alum frames which saves about 5lbs. Ok, not the end of the world unless being under 85# for airline shipping matters. However, the wheel bearings aren't sealed in this vers, next model up they are. Utterly unacceptable that for this price the wheels aren't sealed bearings. The upper platform is really a bit high by maybe 2. Legs are not adjustable on this vers but are on model up. Cutting the legs down is going to be a pain due to needing to relocate locking pins but I'll probably do that. Plastic castings - corners - have somewhat sharp edges because they haven't been deburred of mold flashing. easy to fix, but again for the price it should not show up this way. The top shelf edge is simply rolled alum sheet metal ( as is the bottom ). If you pile stands on this you will damage it quickly. This makes it kind of fragile if moving grip gear is your plan. When I bought this it was the only available high end cart available. Its ok for light duty jobs light DIT , steadicam support or sound. Its not really suitable for moving stands, lights, grip gear which is what I need but can't get. Im thinking about adding a couple strips of 1/4 alum to the shelf bottoms to stiffen them up for heavier loads. The Good - The wheels roll better than any other cart I've had including converted magliners with 10 & 8. The wheel brakes work super easy and reliable. A big step up from the more primitive brakes on other carts. Setup and break down is a few minutes. Advice : leave the wheels separate unless you are shipping this or space is super tight, it will make moving this much easier. There are a ton of rather expensive add ons for this. While nice, you have to really need and want them for it to make sense. I'm DIYing a couple holders to grab small travel light stands to raise antenneas for wireless mic RX and maybe rain & dust cover tent so gear can sit on top and not be exposed to the weather. Thats an accessory they don't have but really need.

Went from ten trips to two

As the title says, this cart allowed me to go from ten trips from a truck down to two. I use it to carry three tripods, two C-stands, a boompole/other audio gear, lights and light stands. The cart itself is awesome even though it's a bit tall. It seems really well-machined as the individual components are easy to break down and set back up. My only pause is the durability of the cart and that'll be tested over time. I tend to take care of my gear so I don't ever anticipate buying another cart, and if I do, I'll be bias toward this brand. Good stuff.

Is the cart collapsible with the optional top drawer mounted?
Asked by: Jack
Hello Jack. Yes, but with the following considerations; the drawer will be on the outside of the folded workstation and any items inside should be removed as they could get damaged from moving around. The workstation collapsed with drawers DOES NOT fit inside the optional travel case.

Compared to the 36 EVO, the 36 NXT is listed as 18 lbs heavier. The same materials are listed for both. What is adding to the extra weight?
Asked by: Donald
Voyager NXT model is considered the basic model of the two workstation carts. It is heavier than the EVO because of its steel casters. There are only two sizes (36 & 42) available and have a weight capacity of 600lbs. Unlike the Voyager EVO, Voyager NXT models come with a standard-fixed height shelf.
