Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 III Overview

  • 1Description

Now in its third version, the Sony E-mount Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 III from Mitakon-Zhongyi is an exceptionally fast normal-length prime with enhanced flare resistance. Obviously distinguished by its f/0.95 maximum aperture, this lens excels in low-light situations and affords impressive control over depth of field. Its optical design incorporates one high refractive index element along with five ultra-low dispersion elements to produce well-corrected imagery void of spherical and chromatic aberrations. The lens's manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.6' away and an 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Normal-length prime is designed for use with full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless digital cameras and can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.
Fast f/0.95 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also enables extensive control over your focus position to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.
Five ultra-low dispersion elements and one high refractive index element helps to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the aperture range for greater sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy.
Manual focus design utilizes a floating elements system to permit focusing on subjects as close as 1.6' away.
De-clicked, stepless aperture ring permits smooth, silent aperture adjustment to benefit video applications.
An 11-blade diaphragm contributes a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus techniques.
All-metal lens barrel features engraved depth of field and focus scales. Additionally, a metal lens mount also offers increased durability between the lens and camera.

Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 III Reviews

Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 III Lens for Sony E is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from *Very* Fun, and Great Build Quality!! This is just out, of course, I just received it yesterday, I have had a chance to shoot a few nature photos. This is a wonderfully fun lens to use. Very solidly built. (Comes with a very nice lens shade with velvet inside, to help with reflections, which of course helps prevent reflections at this aperture.) This lens appears to do very well, especially in situations such as side lighting from a window. The thinness of depth of field at 50 mm for full frame at f0.95 is incredible. The light years of bokeh is very neutral and pleasing, in my opinion. The aperture ring, although stepless, which is great for video, does have some resistance to it, which can help alleviate accidentally moving it off position while shooting. This lens helps turn your full-frame Sony (etc.) into an old view camera, to some extent. I am having great fun with this so far, the build quality appears truly superb, and I could not ask for more for the money, to say the least. I also love how close this lens focuses, 1.6 feet if I’m not mistaken – because of floating elements, Which only further emphasizes the insanely-wide aperture at that distance.
