Does this Nikon version have like the Canon ...

Does this Nikon version have like the Canon version of the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Macro lens an integrated CPU chip and aperture motor?
Asked by: Warren
No. My D850 does not recognize the Laowa. Because my copy backfocuses considerably, I tried to use the Focus Fine Tune. The camera does not recognize the lens and will not do it. You must focus by eye, (which works pretty well), or use Live View on a DSLR and use the magnifying feature if you want to be absolutely accurate. It is an easier lens to use on my Z7 since you can see the magnification in the viewfinder if it is too bright to see it well on the screen. The Z7 also does not recognize the lens; in Lightroom, you will see the shutter speed used but not the f stop. You must of course, set the f stop with the ring on the lens. All that said, I heartily recommend this lens. The sharpness is stunning, the macro capability opens a whole new world; you see things you never dreamed were there. It demands some attention, but it is worth it.

Any advantages from the Nikon Z to Nikon F versions? Is adapting the F version to Z cameras a better choice?
Asked by: William
Neither version has electronic contacts. It works completely manually on either camera. I have a D850 and a Z7. This lens was only available in F-mount when I bought it. I use it almost exclusively on the Z7 with the FTZ converter because it is so much easier to get accurate focus on the Z7 because you can see the image and magnify the the focus point in the viewfinder. This makes a tremendous difference in the sharpness you can achieve. If I had it to do again, I would not hesitate to buy the S version.

When handling this lens, I hear something small rolling/rattling around inside. Is this normal behavior for this variation of lens?
Asked by: Nick
The rolling sound coming from the inside are completely normal on the Venus Optics Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO Lens for Nikon F. This sound comes from the aperture mechanism buil in this lens.

Unfortunately no exif data on my D7500. I believe you can create a custom lens profile for the lens on a D850 though

I understand this is an inner focus, and my question is that is there any filter at the end of the lens?
Asked by: Yoshinori
My copy came with a clear filter at the end of the lens. You can leave it in place or remove it at the risk of letting dust inside the heavily greased barrel. You can also screw additional filters onto the supplied one.
