Designed as a dependable and highly portable starter scope, the Celestron AstroMaster 102AZ 102mm f/6.5 Alt-Az Refractor Telescope is a complete observational platform for making detailed observations of the moon and planets or for comet-hunting. Its manual alt-azimuth mount's locking altitude clutch and locking pan handle allow users to easily find and track objects with reduced vibrations. The entire rig assembles and breaks down without the need for tools, so users can set up fast and get observing sooner.

This version of the AstroMaster comes with two eyepieces that yield low and medium magnifications and a 90° diagonal that sports an integrated erecting prism to correct images and allow the scope to be used as a conventional spotting scope for terrestrial use. The diagonal also places the user's head in a more comfortable position, especially when it is pointed directly overhead. An adjustable-height stainless steel tripod supports the mount and optical tube and comes with a center tray that conveniently holds accessories while improving stability and reducing vibrations.

Celestron 102AZ Reviews

Great scope, not so great mount

This telescope was easy to put together and use but the beveled mount on the scope does not fit tightly on the tripod so there is a bit of wobble and the swivel adjustments on the tripod require a lot of manual adjustment to get a star centered. A FINE adjustment on this tripod would give it a 5 star.

this telescope is so easy to put together it's ridiculous. it's great for transporting around because it's literally just two pieces I take the OTA off of the tripod and then it's easy to load into the car. very fast setup and teardown I don't think there is a faster telescope to set up and the red dot finderscope just makes it even that much faster when you get it calibrated right. seems to be great for everything within the solar system especially planets Jupiter is spectacular you can see the cloud bands and four moons with Saturn you can see the rings and two or three moons and this scope doesn't come with a Barlow lens I just ordered one. I can only imagine what it's going to be like with a Barlow lens and a couple more nice eyepieces because it's been great right out of the box with the two eyepieces it comes with.

Great Inexpensive Powerful Telescope

I wanted a telescope that was good for land and sky, that had a powerful magnification capability, and wasn't too complicated. I did some research and this was the ticket. Now that I have it, I am very happy. It checked all the boxes I'd hoped. Easy to set up, easy to use, powerful magnification. I bought another eye piece for an even stronger magnification too, so it's perfect!
