Voigtlander Nokton 75mm f/1.5 Aspherical Overview

A portrait-length prime with vintage style, the black Voigtlander Nokton 75mm f/1.5 Aspherical is a fast, compact M-mount lens characterized by its classic rendering. Its bright f/1.5 maximum aperture suits working in low-light conditions and also enables greater control over depth of field for isolating subjects using selective focus. The optical design includes three anomalous partial dispersion elements and one aspherical element, which help to deliver high color accuracy and sharpness by suppressing a variety of aberrations. Additionally, its manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3' away, and the 12-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Three anomalous partial dispersion elements help to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to realize high clarity and color accuracy.
One aspherical element is incorporated at the rear of the seven elements in six groups construction and helps to limit spherical aberrations and distortions.
Bright f/1.5 maximum aperture benefits working in available light conditions and also enables greater control over focus position for selective focus applications.
Manual focus design enables a rangefinder coupled minimum focusing distance of 2.3'.
Twelve-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with shallow depth of field techniques.
As part of Voigtlander's Vintage Line of lenses, this lens features a classic black finish to give it a classic appeal, reminiscent of historic Voigtlander lenses, that is well-matched to classic rangefinder camera designs.
Included lens hood helps to prevent stray light from causing lens flare and ghosting when working in bright and backlit conditions.

It's a lovely lens! I bought it for spectacular lightstars for night cityscapes, and it delivers them nicely. Tack sharp, very easy to handle. For what I'm doing, I really don't mind at all the fact that it's an all-manual lens.

Soft portrait lens

I was sold by the reviews and the hype. I own other Voigtlander lenses and they perform fenomenal (my favorite is the 40mm f/1.2 Nokton). So I was looking for a portrait lens and decided to give this a try, given the fact that it is the most reviewed Voigtlander lens, however, as soon as I got it it was an instant regret. I don't think this lens is priced fair, I wouldn't pay kore than $500 for this lens BNIB.

Brilliant on Fuji GFX50

I bought a GFX50 not fully thinking about how expensive Fuji lenses are. (I'm a full time pro and it's tough). I bought this for a video prime on my XT4, and saw someone saying it works/covers on the GFX so I bought a second adapter. Wow it's great, I'm shooting it wide open or one stop down on the GFX50 and the results are stunning, better than my old days of using the Hasselblad 500cm and an 80mm. I like using this more than the 50mm pancake on the GFX... that autofocus is worthless so why not focus manual. Eventually I'll use it on the XT4 for cinema projects, but it's living on the GFX50.

Sharp but hard to nail focus

Super shallow DoF combined with amazing sharpness means low hit rates and fewer usable shots. But when you do nail focus, you get wonderful results. Great bang for the buck especially compared to Leica lenses.

great lens

After several months of research, I finally went with what my heart had told me all along and that was to go with this lens. It is solid. You have a sense of security that this lens will not fail you. I use it with my Leica Monocrom so I know I'm not going to stand far away from my subject. Therefore, it's a great focal length and fast for all the low light situations. One misleading thing in B&H's description is that the minimal focus is 2.3'/70cm. I was surprised to find that on this lens the distance justification marks were in meters and that this lens does not come with markings in imperial.

Amazing... stunning

This is a wonderful and fun piece to shoot with. Very interesting and good personality. I think the only draw back is not having a notch on the focus ring but once you get used to that fact it shoots like a dream

Stunning

I am very happy with this lens. I have a Voigtlander Ultron 35/2 and a Zeiss Biogon 50/2 and wanted to change out the 50mm with a 75mm for my lens kit to have some more range (the 35 and 50 were too close to each other). I was torn between buying this lens and the Leica Summarit 75/2.4, which is a rare lens to find these days, and if you do, it is typically twice the price of this lens and a lot slower! The contrast and bokeh with this lens is amazing and it is super sharp. And it looks great on my M10-P :-) I don't regret buying this instead of the older Leica Summarit.

Can a lens like this be adapted to be used on a canon eos 5d M3?
Asked by: Robert J.
Unfortunately, no. Due to the differences in focal flange distance, there are no lens adapters designed to connect a Leica M-mount lens to the Canon EF lens mount which is used on the Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR camera. The focal flange distance of the Leica M-mount is 27.8 mm, which is smaller than the 44 mm focal flange distance of the Canon EF lens mount. A Leica M-mount lens would not fit and would not have the ability to focus to infinity on the Canon EF lens mount.

Won't work on EF mount (or any SLR). If you want to adapt this lens, you can use a mirrorless mount (Canon RF, Nikon Z, Sony E) with the respective M adapter (M to RF, M to Z, M to E).
