Great RGB lights for the price

I do a lot of music video work and typically rent RGB lights for my shoots. I decided to buy these lights and give this brand a try since it seemed affordable and has the RGB capabilities and scene effects I typically need. Happy to say everything works as advertised and the app is pretty straightforward to get up and running. I saw no issues in terms of light quality and these are perfect for small crews since they aren't heavy, are quick to pair to the app, and you can adjust the color temperature, hue, brightness, and specialty scenes all from your phone. My only con is they aren't crazy bright, and I would have needed a bit more punch had i been shooting in a bigger space. Given their size and price it's still a good deal for the quality it delivers. I am now a fan of this brand and will most likely look into purchasing the 1200D for more lighting power on bigger sets.

Great for the price, but don't expect perfection

I have owned these style lights for 1-2 years now, so get ready for an in-depth review. For the price of these lights, they provide everything that the low-level prosumer photo/video person needs. They have effects, they are dimmable, you can use one to control the others, the app is alright, but if you are looking for a cheap option for a mid-high tier production, these probably aren't it. Pros: -Light seems very accurate and plenty bright for the cost -Easy to set up, comes with a carrying case, has standard light stand mounts & can run off of *two Sony LP style batteries -Wireless Master/Slave & Effects modes that let you set one light and the others follow, and TV/Police/Candle/Party modes for special effect lighting -Sturdy enough for most low level uses Cons: -When using an RGB mode with a color, as you dim the lights lower, the color shifts toward a primary (Ex. if you have a teal color, as you dim the light, it shifts toward blue due to how the LEDs dim) -These lights require TWO batteries to work, they are NOT hot-swappable, and if one battery dies, the light dies -These are certainly not rugged, they are not made to be workhorses. Don't get me wrong, they have traveled with me to many a shoot, but they wear rather quickly, and the soft case is no exception. -The app is clunky and sometimes you have to power off/on in master/slave mode for them to auto-connect. -Barn doors work, but they leave a bit to be desired, as it creates a grid of light, which is not usable in some cases. Overall, for the price, these are great. If these are all you can afford, they will probably do everything you need them to and more. If you need a workhorse and something you can rely on for years to come, I'd invest in a higher budget item.

INCREDIBLE lights for videos!

Mainly use these lights for audition videos. Small enough to package up in their carrying case and take to another location. Powerful enough to light nearly every situation where one or two people are the main focus of the shoot. GVM is really killing the game with their LED products. The lights connected to the app make for VERY easy adjustable control without having to turn the knobs on the back. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Barn door creates grid pattern

The sparsely spaced LEDs and the barn door together creates a grid like pattern. This is very noticeable if you use this light to project a light spot on a blank wall. Also, the two knobs are infinite turns knobs and they require many turns to make noticeable changes.

I purchased this light kit to upgrade my previous outdated light kit and could not be happier with this. Easy set up, app controlled and the ability to slave the lights together just makes it that much more of a plus. I highly recommend this product.

Exactly what i needed

I use this for my video podcasts and it's exactly what I need. Of course, after buying it, i realized, I would've loved to have the third one as a color LED panel for backwash. But oh well, can't have it all.

What wattage does this light give off? (100w, 150w, 300w, 650w)
Asked by: Michael
Maximum watts consumed, 40W. GVM does not provide photometric data, nor do they suggest an output ratio for judging tungsten equivalence. A rough ratio of 5 to 1 is usually a good estimate but multiple factors will come into play. This light has a wide beam angle , so you lose power there. As an rgb unit 2/3 of the leds are dedicated to white light production varying from 3200 to 5600k. So only 2/3 of the 40w goes to white light production and maximum white light will be at the midpoint of 4400k. There will be less luminence as you move toward 3200k and 5600k. You can see a single answer is impossible. A fair estimate would probably be somewhere between 100 and 150 watts of tungsten equivalent.

Can you mount the Diffuser at same time than Doors? If Yes, can you keep the Diffuser while closing the doors to protect the LEDs, or you have to unmount the Diffuser to close doors? Thank you!!

The diffusion that comes with the GVM 800D RBG LED can be used in conjunction with the barndoors. It can be left in place when stored or transported.
