It handles mics of different sizes. Keeps them still in contrast to my previous mic holder. Removing the cold shoe allows me to use the 1/4 20 thread on a mic stand or gorillapod. Very valuable when I have to use a coiled cable that tries to pull the mic back!
Got here quick and works like a charm
I got this so I can remove the built-in mic holder, which I found quite annoying when I wasn't using a shotgun mic. It looked/felt off balance and out of place; I didn't like having the mic so far forward either. Most of the shooting I've done thus far has been without a mic, but this was a quick solution when I did need it for ambient sounds, in conjunction with the built in handle mics - makes for a fuller feel in the soundscape.
Great accessory unit. Well engineered and made from metal....nothing flimsy about this piece.
