RODE Link lav Reviews

Great option for Sennheiser SK 100 G4

We got these for the Sennheiser SK 100 G4 bodypack transmitters and we love them. The sound quality is crisp and nice, the capsule super small and easily hidden for narrative classroom productions.

Works Great...While It Lasts

I have purchased around 6 of these over the last 4 years and gotten 2 replaced via warranty. I only ever use two at a time, so that means I've had to replace one every 6 months on average. The sound quality is fantastic; it's so good that I've recorded voiceovers with them and in a studio environment the quality was indistinguishable from a condenser mic, at least to the naked ear. I have hidden them under clothes, jackets, t-shirts, and dresses and they are small enough to make it easy to get good results, and the audio still sounds amazing. Like any lav, you'll get the best results in post if you mix with a boom mic, but if I had to choose only one or the other, I would choose these lavs over any boom mic 100% of the time. I use them with the RodeLink wireless transmitter, and I'm not sure whether they are compatible with any other boxes.

The RodeLink Lav is not actually wired correctly for use with Sennheiser transmitter bodypacks. Sennheiser transmitters require the tip to be 'hot' for a mic input the while the ring is the instrument input and it does not provide plug-in-power. The RodeLink Lav shorts the tip and the ring together so it is shorting the plug in power provided by the bodypack to the pack's instrument input. When a RodeLink Lav is plugged into a Sennheiser transmitter bodypack, the nominal 9V plug in power provided by the pack drops down to only about 1.2V, which is sufficient to make the RodeLink Lav function but that's well below the 4V that it's supposed to have for proper operation.

It has a locking collar on the connector. It will not fit the GO system. It's made for a differnt lav system.

Asked by: Maeve
You cannot without an adapter. You need to change the TRS to TRRS. This is the adapter BH #ROSC4 which can be found on the B&H website. Or you could just get a Rode smart Lav and plug it right into your phone if you like, this is the part number for the Rode smart Lav B&H # ROSMARTLAVP.

You can try but it's likely it will not work. As the locking collar may stop the pin from making contact.
