Z CAM E2-F6 Reviews

Buy it! Trust me

Coming for a dslr background, I wasn't too sure but the quality I get from this camera is A M A Z I N G! I will admit there's a learning curve but there's tons of material on b&h YouTube page especially that helped me adjust easily. Every time I show up to interviews and documentaries sets with this cam, I can feel the clients very impressed and that counts a lot for me because the final quality is always a home run ! Only downside is the memory card situation But the bullet and get a external monitor/recorder with an Ssd. The files are kinda large

I owned the S6 for a year before buying the F6. My ZCams have been absolutely reliable workhorses. I love the image, the form factor, the workflow, everything. They really are incredible cameras. And the ZCam app is the best camera app I've ever used. They do have some menu quirks, but once you get past the initial learning curve, the are a breeze to use.

Wow!

Coming from being a RED owner a 100% self-employed videographer for 11 years. I've shot on every camera brand except an ARRI. The image from this camera is truly special. It is very clean, sharp and detailed but somehow retains an organic filmic tone. The look of it just looks right, thats all I can say. The auto white balance works better than manually doing it. The interchangeable mounts are SOLID and CHEAP. Battery life...awesome. Lowlight...competes with the A7s's. High frame rates...abundant and completely usable. Reliability, I keep up with the firmware releases and have NEVER had a problem. The iOS integration is 95% amazing (better than all other camera brands). IMO this is the way of the future and Z-Cam is doing it well. The size of it is perfect. You can rig it up or down depending on your needs. Yeah the auto focus doesn't even compete with Canon. But I mean come on, the CEO of the company will respond to you on Facebook about the camera, and they are regularly integrating major improvements without releasing entirely new camera systems that you have to buy. Another con is that nobody knows about the camera brand. So clients ask you about it a lot, and are cautious if you want to use it in a professional/commercial environment. One cool thing is that since owning it so many people come up to me and compliment how cool they think the camera looks aesthetically. The dynamic range is at the top of the game. I'm blown away by it even when I shoot in H.264 low bit rates/baked in color profiles. Also it has the motion cadence of RED and BMD. If you've only shot on DSLR's and mirrorless cameras for years, the first time you edit Z-Cam footage you will notice, the way the objects in the image move just feels high end. It's subtle but its there. Please filmmakers, give Z-Cam a shot! I believe this company is doing what RED did many years ago. Changing the game, making futuristic images at affordable prices.

Incredible Full-frame camera with some caveats.

I love this camera. My only complaint is that DaVinci Resolve can not handle the Zraw at this point in time. Maybe will be solved in the future. Now having said that. The look is great. The images attached I just ran and shot downstairs in the lobby in about 30 mins. No lighting just random shots. with some old vintage lenses from the 70's. Mamiya 645's. Slow-motion is great at 120fps. I have used some slow shutter on this and it works great as well. Once connected to your monitor it is very easy to navigate. super modular with the z-cam cage I bought for it. As it sits by itself. Very light but awkward since it is a small box shape. The cage helps it especially once you have a V mount battery adapted to it. I bought the Sony E mount and the canon mount for it. They both work great. the shots below are shot in proress422 at 6k and reduced to 4k. Now the reason anyone would ever want this camera is the full-frame look which is why I bought it. It looks nothing short of stunning and the color science on this camera is fantastic. You can get perfect skin tones if you choose. I was going for a stylized look on the below images for something I am working on. But I think anyone shooting a chip chart and wanting to have fantastic skin tones will love this camera. I have mainly used Red cameras in the past. But did not want to spend $56k+ for the Monstro full-frame Red. This is an amazing alternative that I am so happy with. I sold my red and don't even care about the small issues have having to use Adobe Premiere again. The small form factor has it's problems. The mini din to XLR is fine but a small price to pay to have a camera of this size and the Komodo has the same issue. Battery life is decent. a 96kw v mount lasts about 6 hours. if you do not power the external monitor with it as well. The EF mount locks pretty easy but be careful when taking off your lens you can drop your glass as you unscrew it if you are not careful. or just do it on the ground and save the danger. The E-mount adapter allows you to adapt almost anything to it. I have tons of vintage lenses so this is a great feature for me. The audio is nice and crisp with no noticeable noise. Images straight off the camera look great. I added some 3d-luts to the one below but pretty much no color grading or work done to them. Overall I think anyone buying this camera will more than happy. Of course, if you are like me you are never really happy with any camera they all have their plus and minuses. For the money, I do not think there is a better camera on the planet as far as full-frame video in raw goes at this point in time.

We moved to Zcam F6 from a Sony a7iii. We got the sony a few months ago and it feels like the camera was getting outdated very quickly. So we considered the F6 and YES IT IS AMAZING. Now we can do both 24fps and slomo up to 120fps in 4K (something that the sony a7iii cannot), which means the quality is going to be consistent, and the camera fits every shooting situation. It also fits every workflows and rigs, including handheld, gimbal and steadicam, because of its small size. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! Issue? Yes, there is one. If you are someone who relies on Focus Assist, please be aware that the focus assist will not work with high frame rate mode. If you are shooting slomo footages, the moment you press record, the focus assist will turn off. (I can't explain why). At this point, you will have to turn on focus assist on your external monitor. Why wouldn't I use the external focus assist in the beginning? Because the Zcam Focus Assist is amazingly accurate and easy to see, guys! It is much better than using Atomos's focus assist. Try it, you'll see why.

Best Full Frame Camera "for the price"

There are so many good things to say about this camera that others have already said so I won't bore you with the great image quality, great size, etc. I only have two gripes and these complaints may or may not have anything to do with Z CAM. 1) ZRAW support. I want to use ZRAW. I think everyone does. But we need native support in all the major NLEs. No "I think" this is a two-fold problem with Z CAM and NLEs. Z CAMs relationship with ATOMOS and ProRes RAW is in direct conflict with ZRAW. This is a problem. And a problem that doesn't have a solution because ProRes RAW is also not supported in all the major NLEs. No one, and I mean no one, would choose external RAW recording over internal RAW recording. No one. So partly Z CAMs fault and partly the NLEs fault. I get that companies, especially small ones, need to make money forming partnerships like these (ATOMOS) but it hurts the consumer in the end. 2) Super 35mm crop options. Most other Full Frame cameras have super 35mm crop options for use with super 35mm lenses. The F6 does sort-of?? It's not clear. There's nothing in the manual about it. It doesn't work in the anamorphic options (ProRes). It's a problem that could be solved in a firmware update, but it is not solved yet.

Affordable cine camera

Not going to lie, when I bought that camera I thought I was taking a risk. I wasnt sure about zcam since I never heard of it before 2019. The online community is strong, but I wasnt so sure, again, if it was some kind of tribalism or if was actualy due to the quality of the product. The Zcam E2 F6 ended up being the smartest choice between the ursa mini and the black magic pocket cinema. I tried them all, and Zcam is on top for multiple reasons. The slow motions, color rendering, the multiplicity of filming options, the reliability of the cam (been using it for 1 year and a half now, never once encountered a bug or shutdown for heat reasons or what ever), the way you can go quickly through the menu, the constant updates Zcam provides, the look (do not neglect what your gear look like if you do videography as a job). I run this little guy with 2-3 LP serie battery and it's way enough. If you have from 10 to 15k budget for a whole kit, Zcam, stabilizer, and couple lenses could last you for years to come and end up being a very reliable and quality second camera in 5-6 years if you need to upgrade. The 3 downsides of the Zcam E2F6 in my opinion are : 1-Where the memory card is located on the body. If you have a cage, it's just a small struggle to open pop out and pop in the card, that's wack. 2-The wifi connection is... difficult to test. I've tried 3 cellphones to operate the camera (the app is, btw, impeccable), and only 1 of them gave me a 100% fluid image. To make sure I am clear here, the cellphones are tied to the stabilizer, so it's basicly couple centimeters away from the body. There shouldnt be a problem with the wifi, especially when using the antenna that comes with the body (which does not change much regarding how strong is the signal). I do not know exactly what the problem is, and that's unfortunate. Please note that the app works on all the 3 android cellphones I have tried and there is no bugs with it at all, which could suggest it's a signal problem coming from two of my cellphones. 3-Not water proof at all. Still waiting for zcam to make a coat. Thanks ladys and gents, stay safe.

will this have an anamorphic mode - if so - what will the resolution be after 2.40 desqueeze?
Asked by: Chris
The resolution after desqueeze will be the same as before desqueeze. The pixels get stretched. You desqueeze in premiere, after recording, not in-camera. I don't know of any camera that desqueezes the recorded image beyond a metadata flag. For display, you can desqueeze the display with whatever monitor you want to use with the camera. Most modern smallHD's offer desqueeze functionality. Also, what lens do you have that squeezes the frame by 2.4x? Most anamorphic lenses squeeze in the range between 1.3x -2x.

The LCD on top of the camera will allow you to view playback and a live view of what the camera is capturing, but it is a rather small screen so it may make sense to use an external monitor for more accurate operation.

Hi Wyatt! This configuration takes Canon EF-mount lenses, of which you can use a variety of, such as any Canon EF lenses or even third-party cine lenses like the EF-mount Zeiss Cp.2s or Rokinon Xeens.
