Hello Catherine, The specifications on the My Passport box and B&H's description indicate this WD 5TB My Passport is for Sierra, High Sierra MAC operating systems and later. High Sierra is 10.13.3. So no, I do not believe this version of My Passport will work for your machine.

The description states that it is "mac compatible with reformatting." Will it work with my late 2015 i-mac using Sierra OS 10.12.6?
Asked by: Wayne
Yes, the WD 5TB My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive (2019, Black) BH #WEBPKJ0050BB will work on a Mac running 10.12.6 but you will need to reformat it when you first connect it to your Mac so it works in macOS.These are the instructions to reformat it. Launch Disk Utility (Finder>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility) Go to View on the menu bar and make sure Show All Devices is selected Find the drive on the sidebar and select the drive, not the volume underneath. Once you have it selected click Erase on the toolbar. Name it, Select Mac OS Extended Journaled, GUID partition Map and click Erase.
