I got this to backup my 7 year old MacBook Pro, and while I've only done a couple of backups so far everything seems to be good. It was easy to get set up right out of the box, and after the initial (full) back up, the subsequent "updates" go pretty quick.

I'm using the WD 6TB My Passport for Mac as a Time Machine backup for my 2TB Mac Studio. Setup was super easy and the drive has been performing flawlessly. I'd like to mention that B&H Photo ordering and delivery was fast and easy.

This product is "designed to work right out of the box with Mac systems running macOS 10.13 and later." You may want to consider the Glyph Technologies 4TB Blackbox Plus 5400 rpm USB 3.1 Type-C External Hard Drive, BH #GLBBPL4000 which states, "can easily be plugged into systems running Windows Vista or later and macOS 10.4..."

Hello Catherine, The specifications on the My Passport box and B&H's description indicate this WD 5TB My Passport is for Sierra, High Sierra MAC operating systems and later. High Sierra is 10.13.3. So no, I do not believe this version of My Passport will work for your machine.
