The Canon EU-V2 Expansion Unit 2 mounts onto your C500 Mark II camera and provides a V-mount battery mount for power as well as ports that expand the capabilities of your camera. The expansion unit adds five ports: Genlock/Sync Out, Remote B (RS-422), Ethernet, DC Out (24V, 2A), and a lens control port. This unit expands your C500 Mark II for work as a full-sized production camera, adding two 3-pin XLR connectors for audio input. The V-mount battery plate incorporates a D-Tap output for powering accessories.
The Genlock/Sync Out port accepts a genlock signal that slaves your camera to the same time base as the other equipment receiving the genlock signal. The Remote B port allows you to control your camera using RS-422 protocol, while the Ethernet port allows you to connect your camera to a LAN for control and live streaming applications. The DC out port provides power for accessories, while the lens control port allows you to interface with select lenses. The ports have rubber covers to protect the connectors from dust intrusion when not in use.

Genlock is the backbone of live/broadcast production as it ensures that all the production equipment, cameras, and switchers, are running in phase with each other. This prevents jumping images or black frames when switching between sources.
The expansion unit can power its ports as well as your camera via the built-in V-mount. However, you cannot power the adapter from the camera, as the XLR connectors, DC power port, and lens port can only be supplied power from a V-mount battery and not from the camera body.

This is a great expansion unit. It fits perfectly and is secured with existing screws onto the C300mkiii. The EU-V2 turns a great production camera into an even more versatile tool with 2 extra audio channels w/ a full control panel, TC, genlock, DC out and more. The main feature is the V-mount that enables you to use brick batteries. I added a gold mount adapter to fit my battery collection. With my current setup, I feel my C300mkiii can handle pretty much anything that comes our way.

I'm sure this is the right tool for some filmmakers but as a documentarian, I think this was overkill for me. I just wanted a way to mount a V-mount, but don't really need all this weight or connectors. Will probably be returning in service of another V-mount option. Makes the camera feel WAAAAY better.

The Canon EU-V2 Expansion Unit 2 would work with Micro V-mount batteries. The batteries you attach would not cover, or prevent use of the Expansion units ports.
