Presenting a super wide field of view, the GF 23mm f/4 R LM WR from FUJIFILM is an ultra-wide 18mm-equivalent prime designed for the G-mount GFX camera system. Ideally suited for architecture and interior photography, the lens's design employs a pair of aspherical elements to control distortion and spherical aberrations for accurate rendering, and a series of low dispersion elements are also featured for improved color accuracy and clarity. Additionally, a Nano GI coating has been applied to suppress lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color. Balancing the optical attributes, the lens also utilizes a linear AF motor with an internal focusing design for quick and quiet focusing performance, and a manual aperture ring also avails intuitive exposure adjustment and a Command position permits making camera-based aperture selections. Additionally, the lens is also dust-, freeze-, and weather-resistant for use in trying environmental conditions.

On a GFX100, this thing sparkles and shines - it's a whole different ballgame to FF. For several reasons. It's really sharp, especially around the f:11 mark (but impressive throughout its aperture range, perhaps a little fall off at the corners wide open, and certainly bests the Zeiss 18mm Milvius or the older Distagon 21 on a Canon5d4 or 5DSR even allowing for the different sensors). The distortion profile is completely different to a full frame lens - as long as you pay some attention to your verticals and your horizontals, you're going to be surprised at how well this lens controls distortion. Color rendition is particularly realistic, unlike the aforementioned Zeiss lenses, which tend to over-saturate color. There's hardly any need for color work in post. This is one of Fuji's strong points. Zone focussing is the order of the day here; and manual with close up work, as is the case with any lens this wide. Auto seems about par for the course otherwise - not particularly fast but more than adequate for a wide. It's a lovely lens to use manually. Everything feels so solid, well built and connected - good on the bigger body. I've only really used this lens in manual/raw modes, so can't comment on Fuji's film simulations, etc. This lens rewards patience and consideration - it's as good as or better than any of the other prime GF lenses I've used and bests the zooms. Highly recommended, if this length is what you want.
