The Manfrotto Nitrotech 608 Fluid Head with 635 FAST Single Leg Carbon Fiber Tripod is a tripod system that includes a Nitrotech 608 head, single-tube carbon fiber tripod legs, and a carry bag. This flat-base fluid head can mount on either a flat-fitting or a 100mm bowl, and the innovative design elements of the Nitrotech head make for a smooth operating fluid head with control surfaces that don't take you out of operating the shot.

The included legs are made from strong, yet lightweight and corrosion-resistant carbon fiber. The single-tube legs feature synchronized twist-lock leg locks that allow you to release the locks on the top and bottom leg sections with only a single twist. This makes for fast setup and breakdown. The legs feature independent leg spread, with three preset locking positions, spiked feet, and included rubber feet. The legs don't require the use of a spreader to create a stable shooting platform, but they are compatible with optional mid-level and ground spreaders. Rounding out the system is the included carry bag for storing and transporting the head and legs.

Manfrotto 608 Nitrotech Fluid Video Head

The Manfrotto 608 Nitrotech is a flat base fluid video head designed for the versatility needs of the independent content creator who's engaged in different types of projects. Thanks to its flat base with a 3/8"-16 mounting thread, as well as its relatively compact and lightweight design, the head can easily be moved between a compatible tripod and a slider, jib, monopod, and various other gear. One of the key features of the 608 Nitrotech is its Nitrogen gas piston counterbalance mechanism (hence, Nitrotech), which allows continuous counterbalance adjustment—as opposed to stepped or fixed—for the head's full payload range of 0 to 17.6 lb. Additionally, an upgraded fluid technology significantly improves continuously variable drag performance and enables smooth and judder-free pan and tilt movements.

Providing further flexibility, the head's camera plate system features a side-lock mechanism that allows for quicker and safer mounting of your camera plate and camera load. Instead of having to align and slide in your camera plate from the rear, you're able to conveniently tuck in one side of the plate from the top and then push and click on the other side.

The 608 Nitrotech offers two rosette mounts for attaching the included pan bar on either the left or right side. These rosettes also feature Manfrotto's Easy Link system for mounting accessories via an articulating arm. Each rosette has a 3/8"-16 port in the center and both Manfrotto and ARRI anti-rotation slots surrounding the mounting port. The Easy Link system is designed to support Manfrotto articulating arms equipped with anti-rotation pins or those with ARRI locating pins to prevent twisting. At the same time, standard articulating arms can also be attached.

Other features of the 608 Nitrotech include improved resistance to lower operating temperatures in comparison to previous Nitrotech models and improved ergonomics and materials used for the different knobs.

  • Upgraded fluid technology enabling smooth and judder-free pan and tilt movements via continuously variable drag performance

Manfrotto 635 FAST Single Leg Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs

The Manfrotto 635 FAST Single Leg Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs have a 75mm bowl base and load capacity of just over 44 pounds. This tripod has a maximum height of just over 61", and with the legs spread wide a minimum operating height of 11". The three leg sections feature synchronized twist-lock leg locks, which provide for faster leg adjustments of the leg height. The bowl base has three mounting fittings compatible with both the ARRI anti-twist and Manfrotto anti-rotation systems for mounting accessories.

The legs move independently of each other and have independent height adjustments, which is useful on uneven terrain and in odd-shaped or tight spaces. The legs have integrated locking angles of 23, 50, and 70°, so you don't need to use a spreader to have a stable platform, though optional ground and mid-level spreaders are available. The legs feature integrated spiked feet, and rubber boots are included for working on delicate surfaces. The legs collapse down to about 29" in length for storage and transport, and they weigh in at under 8 pounds.

Synchronized Twist-Lock Leg Locks
You can adjust the leg height using a single twist lock on each leg; this makes it faster to set up and break down
Independent leg height and angle adjustment make these legs well suited for working on uneven terrains such as rocky ground or stairs as well as in tight or odd-shaped spaces
The spiked feet provide grip when working on soft ground, while the included rubber boots provide grip when working on hard surfaces and protect delicate surfaces from the spiked feet
The legs can accept optional mid-level or ground spreaders
Bowl Adapter Ring
An optional bowl adapter ring offers the user the ability to work with 60mm half ball heads

I've had this tripod combo for about 3 years now. In that time I've had to replace the spreader and the level bubble. It's a good compromise option if you can't afford the Sachtler flowtech system, but there are some compromises on quality for the price difference. My main gripes are that the legs get stuck when you are extending them, so you have to try and shake them loose - it's never as smooth as the demo videos show. The other problem is that the ball head mount isn't very sturdy and can slip when you have a teleprompter or slider on it. I'm thinking about retiring mine for a sturdier setup.

How durable are the twist locks when using in harsh conditions like rain, sand, mud etc?? I'm sure if sand enters the lock mechanism, it would be difficult to clean thereby creating a sandpaper effect internally.
Asked by: Ajit
This head is great in terms of performance size and weight but it is difficult to recommend in the situations that you described. The design has more components exposed to the elements than other heads (such as the 504X). This means it will require more maintenance and is more susceptible to getting sand and other debris in the mechanics. There is a lot that you can do to maintain it if you choose to go with this tripod (we also sell a lot of replacement parts for this tripod if necessary) however there are limits to how deep you can clean it without being a Manfrotto technician. I recommend considering one of the other Manfrotto models that does not expose as many elements Manfrotto 504X Fluid Video Head with 635 FAST Carbon Fiber Tripod B&H # MAMVK504XSFC MFR # MVK504XSNGFC Or a brand that is better suited for tough environments like Sachtler Sachtler aktiv6 flowtech75 MS Tripod System B&H # SAS2064SFTMS MFR # S2064S-FTMS

What Manfrotto tripod bag comes in the box?
Asked by: chris
The bag is TERRIBLE. It is too small to fit the tripod, and the zipper is garbage. After about a year of use the zipper is blown out. The bag is now garbage. Shame on Manfrotto for cheaping out on the zipper to save a few cents

Is the 75 mm ball adapter mounted within the 100 mm ball assembly? Great Tripod.
Asked by: Jeff
I took it apart and found the 75 mm adapter was installed with 3 Allen head screws. I removed it because the 608 head is intended for the 100 mm ball, which is what is supposed to be the one included. It is difficult to determine, but it seems like a better fit. I didn't look for a part number on the ball, an after thought, it's probably marked. Jeff. Thanks.

No one seems to be answering this confidently. Is the half ball a 75mm or a 100mm? It comes mounted to the 75mm adapter. Taking it off the ball seems to swim in the open space. On the 75mm adapter it seems to not fit well. Which is it?
Asked by: Nick
The heads are all flat base with threaded mounts. These units ship with a 75mm half ball. The tripod supports a 75 or 100mm ball.

The bubble level design on both the Manfrotto 504x and Manfrotto 608 Nitrotech Fluid Head are very similar.
