Pelican 1615 Air Overview

Combining strength and lightness, the black Pelican 1615TRVL Wheeled Check-In Case Lid Organizer and Packing Cubes is watertight, crushproof, dustproof, and optimized for travel. For travel by air, Pelican has aggregated available airline rules for check-in dimensions with the goal of creating a case that conforms to their requirements. Of course there will always be exceptions, so it's wise to contact your carrier before departing.

Your 1615TRVL case is made of a super-light, proprietary HPX polymer with honeycomb structural elements to make it up to 40% lighter than most other Pelican polymers. This confidence-inspiring design has been drop-tested on concrete on all sides and corners while loaded with gear. Not content to stop there; the case is also tested with a 28-pound steel dart dropped from a height of 3 feet and submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 3.3 feet. The wheels are roll tested over 1000 yards with loads at 5 mph.

Fully featured, the case has ABS double-throw latches that accept a user-supplied padlock, a watertight O-ring gasket, an automatic purge valve, and stainless steel hasp protectors. Users will appreciate the new, stylish conic curve lid shape, rubber overmolded handles, and an extending trolley handle. Additionally, for easier case ID, there's an attractive, removable polycarbonate card holder that may be placed on the front or side of the case. Lid organizers have zippered compartments for stowing larger items and see-through mesh pockets secure passports and cables. Packing cubes keep gear tightly bundled and allow you to arrange your gear by stacking or grouping side by side.

Pelican 1615 Air Reviews

Meh. Left A Bad Taste.

The TrekPak system is truly innovative. It works great and is easy to configure. The case is rock solid. HOWEVER, FOR $500+ YOU WOULD THINK THE MANUFACTURER WOULD PROVIDE ENOUGH DIVIDERS!!!!!! WRONG!!! AFTER SPENDING $500, I HAD TO DROP ANOTHER $70 TO BUY MORE DIVIDERS TO COMPLETE MY CONFIGURATION. KIND OF BUSH LEAGUE. IF YOU CHARGE A PREMIUM PRICE, PROVIDE A PREMIUM PRODUCT. I have bought many cases in my day and never experienced this with other manufactures. I like the bag, but don't appreciate being taken for granted. Will have to think twice before buying more.

This currently comes with me to all of my assignments (until I get smaller strobes). It's incredibly durable and easy to use considering that it's also a light weight case for it's size. Good work, Pelican. This case will be with me forever.

Switched from $300 cheap case, great decision

I should have gotten this from the start, but I was using a cheap case from Amazon with the removable cubes. Then over time, the cubes kept falling out. The walls on these remain sturdy, and also are much thinner than random foam. Amazing.

The best

Worth every penny. Keeps my basic lighting kit organized and travel-friendly. I've taken it across the country and back, and it gets dinged up but my gear is safe.

Great case, but over-priced. You're paying for the color!

Pelican makes the best hard cases, and this is no exception. I actually purchased it for use as a suitcase, mostly for clothing and a little overflow gear. Perfect for that. It's pricey. Not sure the Packing Cubes are worth that much, but I wanted the Oxblood (maroon) color, so basically that's what I was paying for.

I am moving and needed a checked luggage case for my computer, cameras, monitor, etc. This stellar case is getting me across country by train and later will be my camera and audio gear haven wherever I land.

love the color

I have not yet traveled with the case but am giving 5 stars because of the excellent build quality and the ease of cutting the inserts. It rolls really nicely and there's tons of space...all the reasons I purchased in the first place. It feels totally worth the investment at this point. I'll update after my first trip with it, which is in about a month.

The Pelican 1615AirWF Wheeled Hard Case with Foam Insert (Black) (B&H# PE1615ACFB) has an interior space of 29.6 x 15.5 x 9.4" (75.2 x 39.4 x 23.9cm). Within that space there is a layer of foam on each side and also cubed (pick and pluck) foam in the middle. It will therefore accommodate many non tall items and rigs (up to about 7" tall) easily. To test that, we would recommend attempting to position all of the items you mentioned in a space that is about 27 x 13" (68 x 33cm) on a table while leaving an inch of room between items that need protection from each other where there would be cubed foam. If you can fit everything and still keep it all under 7.5" (19cm) tall then it should fit in the case.

I am looking for something to transport a large format (think Speed Graphic) camera and 4 or 5 large format lenses mounted on lens boards. Which would be the better option - the pick and pluck foam or the dividers?
Asked by: Edward
Dividers offer the most flexibility and the maximum use of space. Foam, while offering a little more protection, once arranged for the specific gear is difficult to change, if at all. Most likely a new foam set would be required.
