Pelican 1615 Air Overview

Combining strength and lightness, the oxblood Pelican 1615TRVL Wheeled Check-In Case Lid Organizer and Packing Cubes is watertight, crushproof, dustproof, and optimized for travel. For travel by air, Pelican has aggregated available airline rules for check-in dimensions with the goal of creating a case that conforms to their requirements. Of course there will always be exceptions, so it's wise to contact your carrier before departing.

Your 1615TRVL case is made of a super-light, proprietary HPX polymer with honeycomb structural elements to make it up to 40% lighter than most other Pelican polymers. This confidence-inspiring design has been drop-tested on concrete on all sides and corners while loaded with gear. Not content to stop there; the case is also tested with a 28-pound steel dart dropped from a height of 3 feet and submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 3.3 feet. The wheels are roll tested over 1000 yards with loads at 5 mph.

Fully featured, the case has ABS double-throw latches that accept a user-supplied padlock, a watertight O-ring gasket, an automatic purge valve, and stainless steel hasp protectors. Users will appreciate the new, stylish conic curve lid shape, rubber overmolded handles, and an extending trolley handle. Additionally, for easier case ID, there's an attractive, removable polycarbonate card holder that may be placed on the front or side of the case. Lid organizers have zippered compartments for stowing larger items and see-through mesh pockets secure passports and cables. Packing cubes keep gear tightly bundled and allow you to arrange your gear by stacking or grouping side by side.

This is deep and holds all three of my dslrs and lenses. I also purchased a lid organizer that completes the project. Not nearly as heavy as the original pelican cases.

Structurally weak and terrible warranty

I bought this case thinking it would be strong enough to put my displays in to ship around the country but I was wrong. I've used this case maybe 10 times and had it loaded with maybe 50 pounds of material and I just see a giant break and crack next to one of the wheel assemblies. The warranty department won't do a thing because they said they test all their products and that damage doesn't fall under their warranty even though they advertise crush proof on their listings. The case is definitely lighter but its less than half of the protection and thickness of their normal cases. Hope this saves someone from this expensive headache.

Tough hauler

Takes massive amounts of gear and easy to move when heavy. Cut your own high density foam sheets to pack multiple items securely in varying configurations.

I've lost count of how many Pelican cases are carrying my gear. Then Pelican changed the game again with their Pelican Air line of cases. Significantly lighter and this is especially helpful when you're flying with gear and trying to keep it under 50 Lb. The build quality, strength and features seem to be identical to the regular, heavier cases. The new latches (which seem to be copied from Pelican's Storm cases line) are excellent. Pricey, yes... but worth every cent.

Pretty good

Asked by: Aditya
No, based of measurements the case will not accommodate a qty of 4 FX 400 ELC heads. Please review the following case to fit all four heads

This case fit a blackmajick 6K with his cage , lens , Matter box , monitor , handle set ? Battery V mount , and mic ?

The Pelican 1615AirWF Wheeled Hard Case with Foam Insert (Black) (B&H# PE1615ACFB) has an interior space of 29.6 x 15.5 x 9.4" (75.2 x 39.4 x 23.9cm). Within that space there is a layer of foam on each side and also cubed (pick and pluck) foam in the middle. It will therefore accommodate many non tall items and rigs (up to about 7" tall) easily. To test that, we would recommend attempting to position all of the items you mentioned in a space that is about 27 x 13" (68 x 33cm) on a table while leaving an inch of room between items that need protection from each other where there would be cubed foam. If you can fit everything and still keep it all under 7.5" (19cm) tall then it should fit in the case.

I am looking for something to transport a large format (think Speed Graphic) camera and 4 or 5 large format lenses mounted on lens boards. Which would be the better option - the pick and pluck foam or the dividers?
Asked by: Edward
Dividers offer the most flexibility and the maximum use of space. Foam, while offering a little more protection, once arranged for the specific gear is difficult to change, if at all. Most likely a new foam set would be required.
