Does the cable detach from the microphone base, or is it permanently attached?
Asked by: Michael
The Shure MX412D/S, a 12-inch supercardioid desktop gooseneck microphone, comes with a permanently attached cable. This cable is approximately 3 m (10 ft) long and is terminated with a 3-pin male XLR connector for audio and includes separate conductors for logic control.

Can the desktop base come off so that the mic can be put through a hole in top of podium?
Asked by: Jennifer
Yes, the Shure MX412D/S Supercardioid Desktop Gooseneck Microphone (12") can be removed from its base. To mount the microphone directly on a podium, a flange mount will be required. The required flange mount is the Shure A400SM Recessed Shockmount for Gooseneck Mics, designated BH # SHA400SM.

question

How heavy is the base? Will it stay in place even if the podium is slightly tilted?
Asked by: Charles
This product is intended to be used on a flat surface. A few degrees of tilt may not affect stability much, however the typical podium tilt is much more than a few degrees. I recommend securing the base to the podium in order to ensure it stays in place regardless.

question

I want to find a way to run Shure MX412's wirelessly using my existing Sennheiser G3 wireless belt pack transmitter combos. I tried to use Whirlwind 4x Phantom Power blocks but they introduced too much line noise to be useful. Any suggestion?
Asked by: Adam
I would consider getting the Sennheiser SKP 300 G3 transmitter which will provide 48 volts of phantom power for your MX412. This way you will not be introducing additional electronics to your audio chain, potentially causing line noise.

Does it have an off/on or mute button?

Does it have an off/on or mute button?
Asked by: Marc
Yes - There is a "touchpad" switch on the microphone. By default the mic ships in an "always hot" state, and pressing the button momentarily "mutes". As outlined in the user manual, I have switched these to "touch-on" - "touch-off". Simple process in the bottom panel of the mic. I have 12 of these and it's a 2 minute process to convert each one by flipping a DIP switch on the board in the bottom stand.
