Benro S Series Video Head Overview

The Benro S8Pro is a versatile fluid video head for loads up to 17.6 lb. Featuring a 75mm flat base with a 3/8"-16 threaded hole, it can efficiently be moved between compatible tripods and sliders, jibs, monopods, and other support gear. To balance your heavy loads, the S8Pro offers 7+0 steps of counterbalance adjustable via a knob on the side. Another knob on the opposite side provides control over continuous pan and tilt drag. There are also independent pan and tilt locks. The tilt range is a wide +90/-75°, and the pan range is a full 360°.

Some parts of the head are made of magnesium and other parts of aluminum. Virtually the entire head, including its knobs, is made of robust yet lightweight metal. A pan bar is included that can be attached to a rosette adapter on the left or right side of the head, for left- or right-handed users. A camera plate is included that can be adjusted forward/backward to let you find the optimal balance for your camera. A safety lock on the plate ensures that once mounted, the plate won't slip out if you move it in either direction too much. Two camera screws are supplied—1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16—that can be stored underneath the camera plate on the head itself, in dedicated slots. For attaching accessories, there's a 3/8"-16 threaded hole on each side of the head to which you can secure articulating arms.

Benro S Series Video Head Reviews

Good for spotting scopes

I have a Kowa TSN 88, a four pound and a bit spotting scope for birding. My old head could not deal with the weight - I’d lock it in and the scope would droop. The Benro S4Pro locks and stays put. It pans and tilts smoothly. The knobs for locking pan and tilt are next to each other - my fingers find them easily without having to look for them, and the handle adjusts to any position one might want. The spring loaded feature that returns it to level is proving useful - it’s nice to not have the scope nod off if I step away. The construction is robust - not a plastic throw away model. Worth the money imho.

It has missing g screws. Scratches and the leveler bubble isn't functioning properly, with bad qualityglue. When I do 360 turn it has a place when it does like a stop movement it isn't completely smooth

It may not look like it (color and finish are different) but functionally it looks exactly like Manfrotto MVH502AH. What has your experience been like if you've used both S8Pro and MVH502AH?
Asked by: Vasanth
Yes, they are very similar products. The Manfrotto 502AH Pro Video Head (BH #MAMVH502AH • MFR #MVH502AH) has a slightly higher load capacity - 22 lb vs 17.6 lb with the Benro - as well as a flatter, wider top that can be beneficial for larger cameras. The Benro S8Pro Fluid Video Head (BH #BES8PRO • MFR #S8PRO) has more customizable drag / counterbalance controls, with a numbered system that allows for greater precision.

What are the counter balance weights at each step ...

What are the counter balance weights at each step for the S8Pro?
Asked by: Abdulrahman
The Benro S8Pro Fluid Video Head (B&H# BES8PRO) features seven incremental steps between none at all and its maximum counterbalance level. The settings are not measured in pounds (or kilograms) but rather labeled as 0-7 on the POSI-STEP COUNTERBALANCE knob on the side of the head. Because they are not scientifically calibrated to specific levels, the weight associated with each setting will differ slightly from copy to copy. However, they are designed to be relatively evenly spaced and thus will provide ample options for setting the counterbalance to a degree that suits typical video cameras within the payload limit of the head.

Hi. I just bought this S8 Pro head, and the head keeps leaning backwards, as if there was too much weight towards the back of the head. It tilts upwards, even with nothing on top of it. Shouldn't it stay still and leveled?
Asked by: Ian
Try adjusting the counterbalance and make sure the camera on top is properly balanced.
