Aputure MC Overview

The Aputure MC 4-Light Travel Kit with Charging Case includes four Aputure MC light fixtures, a charging case, and accessories. The MC light fixtures are part of the Aputure M-series of lights and feature RGB LEDs, as well as both tungsten- and daylight-balanced LEDs, creating a full hue-controllable LED light that emits up to 95% of the BT.2020 color gamut. This lightweight fixture easily fits in the palm of your hand and can be mounted using the built-in 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole or attached to metal items via its built-in magnets. The light integrates an OLED display screen and a control wheel. Compatibility with the Aputure Sidus Link app enables you to remotely control your light from your mobile device. The light fixture supports the Sidus Mesh technology that enables you to control multiple fixtures.

The fixture is dimmable from 100 to 0% brightness, has 360° of hue control, and 100 levels of color saturation adjustment. It features a CRI rating of 96 and a TLCI rating of 97, and the MC LED light has a color temperature range of 3200 to 6500K adjustable in 100K increments. In addition to the HSI and CCT settings, the light has nine built-in FX settings. The integrated battery will run the fixture for two hours at maximum brightness. The fixture supports USB Type-C PD (Power Delivery) quick-charging protocol for rapid charging, and it also supports the Qi wireless charging protocol, making it compatible with most wireless chargers.

The included case holds the four MC fixtures and can be used to wirelessly charge the lights using the included power supply. The case also incorporates two 5 VDC USB power ports for charging mobile accessories.

Sidus Link Control
The mobile app for iOS and Android lets you adjust the light's settings to allow for finer control of the HSI, CCT, and FX functions by enabling additional control methods and parameters.
The Color Picker function allows you to point your phone's camera at a color, capture it, and your light will reproduce it instantly.
Sidus Mesh technology allows you to control up to 100 lights in a stable network. Control a single light, or all of them simultaneously, from the Sidus Link mobile app. The Sidus Mesh network can extend up to 1300' with no more than 262' between compatible light fixtures.

Small, lightweight, easy to manage but I can't use it to light miniatures or Macro shots. The led light leaves line patterns that show up on my 45mp sensor.

Dashboard light? Check. Kicker? Check. Overhead with built in magnets? Check. Honestly you can do so much with these, it's no wonder they're popular. Worth the hype, even more when on sale!!! BT is reliable and hasn't failed yet! Even when hooked up to a scene with over 15 other lights.

It's exceptionally bright, and i'm having a ton of fun playing with all the modes. I love that it comes with a diffuser and case as well. My only complaint is that it's magnets are a bit too strong for me and I've dropped it a few times when trying to remove it from my fridge.

I wanted this for a flexible (battery) light source for tabletop photography. I like its size; variable light control, and seeming build quality. My only complaint is that its not very bright. Looking at it, its blinding, but for lighting objects on my tabletop studio, its like the light barely is able to make it out of the unit. Im no light expert; a guide number (lumens?) would have helped in decideing to buy it or not.

No, we would look into other solutions for up lights as the MC-4 units do not provide the run-time maybe needed as well provide the beam of angle that is required.

In addition to all the amazing features, can the Aputure MC also be connected to a camera shoe, then linked via cable/bluetooth/etc, to be used for flash photography? I feel that this is the ONE THING that is constantly NOT discussed, or is overlooked, in all reviews. I cannot find any information on Aputure's website either. Thank you very much!

According to Aputure the the Sidus Mesh network can extend up to 1300' with no more than 262' (80 meters) between compatible light fixtures. This would however be under ideal circumstances with minimal interference. The distance may be less if there are other wireless signals in the area.
