Nikon D6 DSLR Camera (Body Only)
Key Features
  • 20.8MP FX-Format CMOS Sensor
  • EXPEED 6 Image Processor
  • Multi-CAM 37K 105-Pt. All Cross-Type AF
  • 14 fps Shooting, Extended ISO 328000
The peak of Nikon's DSLR lineup, the D6 is a no-holds-barred camera with a focus on speed, performance, reliability, and precision. Adept in both photo and video realms, the D6 revolves around a 20.8MP FX-format sensor and an EXPEED 6 image processor that enables an impressive 14 fps continuous shooting rate, a native sensitivity range from ISO 100-102400 (expandable up to ISO 328000), and UHD 4K video recording at 30 fps. When working with stills, a revised high-density Multi-CAM 37K autofocus system features 105 cross-type points that improve focusing precision and speed, and with 1.6x greater frame coverage, the need to recompose while shooting is greatly reduced. This focusing system also works with 17 customizable Group Area AF patterns to suit working in cluttered or busy scenarios or with fast-moving subjects.

Does the D6 digitize negs and slides?

Does the D6 digitize negs and slides?
Asked by: John
Although the Nikon D6 lacks the negative digitizer function like the D850, you can use the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED lens and the ES-2 Slide Copying Adapter to create digital files of your negatives/slides to work on it post with Photoshop.

This camera offers a Clean HDMI output which you can use with an external recorder. However H.265 is not a format found on recording monitors from companies like Atomos and Blackmagic at this time.

Yes, the Nikon D6 DSLR Camera makes as much noise as the D5 when shooting in continuous. In quiet mode you can now select from 1 to 5 FPS. In the D5 QC (Quiet Continuous) mode was fixed at 3 FPS.

I like the ruggedness of this camera. I shoot some video but most work is fine art stills. I don't plan to print larger than 30"X40". Image quality is no. 1 priority. I know that all pixels are not created equal. Will I be disappointed with the IQ and should I wait for the new D860/880 we all expect with more pixels?
Asked by: Robert
To add to Reuben's answer: the D6 (and D5) are aimed at shooters who shoot high ISO. The D6 is the best camera if you are shooting in low light. If you've got lots of light and can shoot at low ISO, the D850 will give you significantly better images with higher resolution and higher dynamic range at low ISO - which means better colors and saturation.
