Beyond the image stabilization performance are optical features that improve image overall image quality. This begins with Canon's antireflection Super Spectra Coating system to reduce light loss and improve image contrast across the entire visual spectrum. Next, they employ a Porro prism optical path that provides a rich depth of field to enable users to better judge distance between objects while delivering a wider field of view versus similar roof prism models. A field-flattener corrects spherical aberration for distortion-free views, especially at the edges. The binoculars run on one included CR123 battery. Designed for portability and ease-of-use, they measure in with a compact length of well under six inches and weigh significantly less than a pound.

Optical Performance
  • Moderate 8x magnification brings objects in close for observation while helping to maintain a generous field of view and wider exit pupil versus high power options
  • 20mm objective lenses helps to maintain a compact form factor for easy packing, carrying, and handling
  • Porro prism optical path provides a wider field of view versus roof with a rich depth of field for an immersive 3D visual effect
  • Field-flattener lens system corrects distortion and spherical aberration for crisp views, especially at the edges
  • Broadband Super Spectra Coating system reduces color bias, lens flare, and ghosting to deliver sharp views with improved contrast and accurate color across the entire visual spectrum
  • 6.6-foot minimum focus distance allows detailed observations of small birds, bugs, flora & fauna at close range such as at feeders, flower beds, or window boxes
  • 346.5-foot field of view at 1000 yards
  • 3-element / 2-group objective lens design
  • 4-element / 3-group eyepiece lens design
Image Stabilization
  • Choose Normal IS or Powered IS to deliver the correct performance depending on whether the subject is moving or still
  • Makes it easy to maintain a high-magnification view, especially in situations where body movement or strong shake might occur
  • Lens Shift Image Stabilization system is effective in canceling out shaking made by movement and vibration
  • Incorporates a continually adjusting vibration gyro mechanism that moves IS lens both vertically and horizontally
  • Simple push button delivers up to 5 minutes of continuous operation
Use and Handling
  • Compact and ergonomic design provides a comfortable feel in the hand
  • Protective rubber armor provides a slip-resistant grip
  • 56 to 72mm interpupillary distance adjustment accommodates users of all sizes

We received these just in time for our trip to Yellowstone, and are so happy with them. The trip would not have been the same!

Perfect For Someone With A Tremor

My wife has a very bad essential tremor and is an avid birdwatcher. Her tremor has gotten so bad that it is diffficult for her to hold her binoculars steady enough to identify or observe birds. I decided to get her these binoculars for Christmas. I am happy to say that she loves them and that they works as advertised. She can hold them very steady when the stabilization is activated. I was afraid that the quality might suffer because she uses a pair of $1200 Swarovski binoculars. But the quality is quite good. They are sharp with good contrast. She also like that they are lightweight and focus to around 7 feet, so she can also use them for butterflies. She wishes that the angle of view was a little wider, but other than that, they are perfect.

Canon 8x20 Image Stabilization

I bought these for my wife for her birthday. These binoculars are terrific! The image stabilization technology works wonderfully. Regular binoculars allow a quick look, but with these, we can linger, search and more greatly appreciate the field of view; birdwatching is a pleasure. One small thing that Canon needs to address: the plastic lens caps will fall off easily. So far we have been very lucky to find them on the ground or on the floor of the car. They will fall off if you shake the binoculars, and I cannot seem to improvise a fix using tapes etc.

Surprisingly bright for 20mm bins.

Image stabilizing works wonderfully. Because of the stabilization, I can see more detail than with my Leica 8x32 Ultravids. It is like having the binoculars on a tripod. Although the image quality is not equal to the Leica, it is surprisingly comparable for such an inexpensive pair of binoculars. There is no rain guard provided, but I found the the rain guard for my Leica 8x32s fit perfectly.

Generally better than expected!

I bought these as a Christmas present mostly for my wife (thus the smaller version/lighter weight) because of the frustration I've observed with her use of lesser products. She has never experienced the joy of large aperture, flat field, pro optics. Combined with my decades-long experience with Canon's vari-angle prism I.S. tech and their follow-on technologies, I KNEW if purchasing something this expensive, I would do it from Canon. I am not at all disappointed in this product: If I were buying JUST for me, I would have gone with with one of their more expensive models with higher magnification AND a larger aperture primary lens. Focus is crisp, easy, very flat across the field of view, and then when holding the IS button, the stabilization is so obvious and clean it makes me wonder if I need to see a doctor about hand tremors... () It was especially gratifying to watch my wife use them the first time and notice how easy it was to focus on objects of varying distances. Then as a I told her to spot a more distant object, she was able to frame it, and describe the details to me. It was here where I introduced her to the IS capabilities by having her hold her view steady while letting me guide her finger to the stabilizer button. Her reaction was priceless... I also bought (for me) a tripod mounting kit and a smartphone adapter for an eyepiece. CANON SHOULD INCLUDE LENS CAPS, even if as an extra cost option. Depending on aftermarket parts for this critical piece is short-sighted {see what I did there?} at best.
