WD Desktop External HDD Reviews
I Been Buying Since 2018
Great Brand Great Basic HDD Great Compacity Great Reliability. I have 2 18tbs 6 20tb and 3 22tb
Works as it should
I own many WD digital drives 18? Very few have failed over a 20 year period. Many of the originals are still working. I always double back up data
Nice
You can open it and pull the hard drive out with bare hands, 2 screws holding the sata converter board. Inside is a WD White label drive. You can put another drive in the enclosure only if you flash the sata to usb board firmware. Short circuit the winbond chip on pins 1 and 2 (1 marked with a dot) while powering it on to get into flash mode, there is a flash tool and firmware on the internet. You can actually edit the firmware with a hex editor and change the manufacturer, product name, ids etc, good fun. It's using a JMicron chip.
Fast with plenty of storage
Fast with plenty of storage for those large photographic assignments. Runs silently and fast an ease to use.
Bigger is Better
This HD is great because I can keep all my family photos/videos on it without having to keep track of multiple drives. I then back it all up with Backblaze to be extra safe.
Works well
I bought two of these drives early this year, but didn't install them until June. Both installed very easily and have worked without problem as back-up external drives. They get a fair bit of use because I'm adding to and retrieving files from the drives on a daily basis.
5 months and it's dead.
Woke up one day and drive is totally dead. Will not mount. Ran through every possible solution online. No luck. Twenty years of buying drives - worst product every used. WARNING: AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Seriously. Horrible.
