Avenger D650 Junior Boom Arm Reviews

Excellent Boom

I'm using this to boom out a 300w cob light with a 90 lantern and it doesn't break a sweat. It's overkill for my use case, but as far as I'm concerned it's safer that way. You can't go wrong with this boom so long as you've got a stand beefy enough to support it. Using mine on a Matthews combo with no trouble at all.

Room for improvement

The boom arm is pretty substantial and a definite upgrade over the D600 which I also own. However, it's missing a hook for a weight bag, and the supplied counter weight does not have a handle with which to tighten it in position (it's a bolt so you need to use a wrench). Two minor improvements to get five stars.

These are the listed parameters 88 lb (40 kg) @ Minimum extension 22 lb (10 kg) @ Maximum extension, you test the arm on different extension length's until you are comfortable on how stable it is.

Where can I get a Handle for the counterweight? The bolt sucks
Asked by: Ari
The handle is removed because the rearmost locking collar allows you to move that section meaning there's no need to loosen and tighten the counterweight to balance the boom. Following that train of logic, if it's a permanent fixture then you can more securely tighten a bolt with a tool than you can a handle by hand meaning it should be safer. As a part the handle is listed as the Manfrotto R022,03.
