Movo Photo WMX-1 Overview

For vloggers, YouTubers, and mobile journalists looking to upgrade from the built-in microphone on their camera or smartphone to a quality wireless lavalier mic system on a tight budget, the Movo Photo WMX-1 presents a great combination of affordability and simplicity whether shooting with a DSLR/mirrorless camera or a mobile device.

With no menus to navigate, no channels to set, and no complicated settings to configure, the WMX-1's user-friendly operations can get you going in a matter of moments. Plus, features such as real-time headphone monitoring and dedicated mic and line inputs—options normally only found on much more expensive systems—empower you with extra versatility for more demanding projects.

All you need to provide is some AAA batteries; the WMX-1 comes with everything else necessary to start recording clear, intelligible speech to your camera or smartphone. It includes a bodypack transmitter with a clip-on lavalier microphone and a windscreen, a dual-channel receiver with a belt clip and a shoe mount, multiple audio cables, and a hard case to carry the whole system.

Unboxing the WMX-1
Since the transmitter comes with a belt clip, it can easily be attached to the subject's clothing or costume. Being ultracompact and lightweight, it won't be a bother to the talent. It offers separate mic and line inputs that enable proper connection of a microphone or a line-level source such as a camera feed.

The equally ultracompact dual-channel receiver can accommodate up to two transmitters at the same time, making it a capable device for one- or two-person shoots. It includes a belt clip and a shoe mount so you can place it on you or your camera rig, plus TRS and TRRS audio cables to allow proper hookup to your camera (via TRS) or smartphone (via TRRS).

Along with the clip-on lavalier microphone, you get a windscreen that's designed to reduce noise from light wind, breaths, and rustling of clothes. The mic's omnidirectional polar pattern ensures consistent voice pickup even if the mic isn't pointed directly at the subject.
Simple Setup
Don't worry about frequency scanning or manual channel assignments, the receiver and transmitter only need to be paired. Once that straightforward process is done, the system is ready to go.

Two AAA batteries power each transmitter/receiver for up to six hours of run time. Rather than having to recharge batteries between gigs, just swap drained batteries for fresh ones.

The receiver features volume buttons, which allow you to adjust the signal level of the receiver's output to achieve a proper, distortion-free recording level on your camera or smartphone.

Connect a pair of headphones to the receiver's dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack to experience real-time monitoring of your audio signal.
2.4 GHz Digital Wireless
The WMX-1 utilizes 2.4 GHz digital technology to provide simple and reliable wireless signal. 2.4 GHz systems require no special license, so you can use the WMX-1 anywhere in the world.

By operating in the 2.4 GHz frequency spectrum, the WMX-1 avoids interference from commonly used UHF and VHF wireless mic systems. Keep the WMX-1 away from heavy Wi-Fi and 2.4 GHz traffic for optimal performance.

With line-of-sight communication between the transmitter and receiver at a maximum distance of 200 feet, you can record your subject and get the right shot with confidence.
General Features
  • Ultracompact, lightweight housings with detachable belt clips
  • Supplied shoe mount allows the receiver to be attached to a camera
  • Bicolor LED on each transmitter and receiver indicates sync status and low-battery warning
  • Receiver outputs a mono signal (summed mono when using two transmitters) from its 3.5mm line and headphone output ports
  • Up to six hours of operating time via AAA batteries (available separately)
  • Includes 3.5mm TRS cable for connection to a camera
  • Includes 3.5mm TRRS cable for connection to a smartphone or tablet outfitted with a 3.5mm headphone jack

I create some training videos and I will use this mic to allow me or another presenter to move around more. Very happy with the sound so far. The price was good and the mic, transmitter and receiver seem to be solid

Second set bought, awesome

I love these. I usually dont need to mic anyone but the officiator and the groom at weddings and the mic pics up the bride just as good as the other two yet it blocks out most of the surrounding noise. It's a brilliant mic kit. My only gripe is that the transmitter is a little too big and the signal chips out once in a while when you least expect it to. Battery life is amazing tho.

Can this be used with a sound board if I use a 3/4 adaptor?
Asked by: Paul
Yes, the Movo Photo WMX-1 Wireless Lavalier Microphone System can be connected with a mixer. You can use a cable like the Kopul Stereo Right-Angle 1/8" Male Mini-Jack to XLR Male Cable - 1.5' (B&H # KORSMXM015) to connect to an XLR mic input on the mixer, or you can use a 1/4" adapter like the Comprehensive Stereo 1/4" Male to Stereo 1/8" (3.5mm) Female Adapter (B&H # COSPPMJS) along with the TRS cable included with the wireless mic system to connect to a 1/4" mic input on the mixer.
