Live events requiring video production require a flexible video switcher like the V-8HD Multi-Format HDMI Video Switcher from Roland. This multi-format video switcher can input up to eight HDMI video sources, switch them, add effects, and output them consistently to screens or projectors. Whether you're switching video for a live presentation or live streaming, the V-8HD has the features necessary for high-quality, live video switching.
The HDMI inputs can accept up to 1080p60 resolution feeds from numerous sources such as media players, computers, professional video cameras, and more. Two of the HDMI inputs utilize internal scaling hardware, which separately scale and/or convert videos of varied resolutions into the selected output resolution, ensuring output consistency between sources. The V-8HD supports numerous effects such as cut, mix, wipe, chroma and luma key, flip, fade, and more. You can also store up to eight .bmp and .png files in internal memory to add images to your effects.
The V-8HD features an 18-channel audio mixer, and up to 24-bit, 48 kHz PCM audio with an effects library that provides gain, de-esser, noise reduction, and more. It also features left-right analog RCA inputs and outputs, as well as a 1/4" TRS headphone output. It also features a 4.3" TFT color LCD which previews each input and program output all on a single screen. On the top of the unit, there are multiple rows of input and output buttons, position, source, and levels buttons, and a fade T-bar, giving you full control of your production within the small, portable frame. You can also remotely control and monitor Atomos recorders to start/stop using a trigger button, so you don't miss a vital record.
While the feature set of the V-8HD is expansive, it is also intuitive and simple to operate after the initial setup. Music venues, houses of worship, streaming media production companies, and convention centers that rely on volunteers or less-experienced technicians can take advantage of the rich feature set and ease of use, with minimal impact on existing infrastructure. You can even pair the switcher with a BOSS single or double footswitch and program over 100 commands, adding to the versatility of the V-8HD.

Roland V-8HD Reviews
Switcher working great
)Still learning a lot about this switcher. I have used it a few times for events and have had great results. Still working on getting the audio at the best level. Seems that the control for audio output comes mostly from the external source feeding into the switcher. I have had a few times that required long cables to reach the cameras. Used SDI cables with the HDMI adapters (used Blackmagic Design Micro Converter BiDirectional SDI/HDMI 3G (with Power Supply - BLBCSDIHDM3P) and this has worked well.
Great
This is an awesome mixer. Spend some time reading the quickstart guide & reference manual & you will see its capabilities. Would absolutely buy again. I feed it with 4 camcorders, 1 ptz camera, 1 gopro, an Atomos Ninja 5, and a laptop.
The best 8 Channel video Mixer Money can buy! 5+ stars
Initially starting with the V-1HD and quickly finding out that 4 inputs were not enough and all the competitors higher channel mixers were SDI but not ready to make the jump to SDI. I was amazed to hear the announcement of the V-8HD after finishing my 6 month rental of the V-1HD with Bavas Music City (Great Customer service btw) I Immediately started my rental with the V-8HD. Several months into using it for weddings, Church services, Music production, conferences etc it has excelled in all areas, the 3 outputs are a lifesaver, The aux output is amazing, being able to load still images is amazing, the DSK, the fact that t works with cat6 convertors it's pretty much a V-1HD on steroids. I showed a group of kids at my church it and within 10 minutes of using it, they had pretty much mastered it. The menu system is easy to navigate and any problems you may have Roland's excellent customer service is happy to help and haven't let me down. If I really really really had to nitpick/dream features would be like the V-1HD a desktop control software for the V-8HD instead of the only option of an iPad app that only works on newer iPads, and an Inbuilt clock to stay on top of production. TL;DR It is an amazing product that will transform your productions Roland really got this right and can rival even some Blackmagic switchers If you need an 8 input HDMI mixer get it!! Don't let the price scare you. it is worth every Dollar and more.
Amazing perfection
I have owned mine for a few months now. WOW! I love everything about it. Yes there are things I wish it had or did, but you know what. As is, is perfect enough. I am so very happy with my investment and my research. I can not warn you on any potential issues. I can find none. Streaming is going to be with us for a long time! Love my V-8HD
This is what I've been waiting for
Using Sony alpha mirrorless cams and being restricted to HDMI, this has been exactly what I've been waiting for - a simple 8 channel HDMI input unit. It's perfect, I like the built, the menu is great, I like the preview window on the unit and that it has three customizable outputs. I use the split screen feature, like the option of the aux bus, and like that I don't have to bother with the preview channel if I'm doing quick switching. Knobs feel good, and the thing feels solid. Just what I needed.
It is very good
This item is really great. I recommend it highly to anyone wanting it.
It's Perfect
It has everything except an XLR mic input with +48. But I patch a small format mixer into the RCA's. I would do that anyway no matter what switcher I'm using. There are many 4-channel mixers in the $99 range. You can also patch an aux mix into one of your cameras and use HDMI audio as your main mix. EQ/limiter/comp all very good. Edit on menu screen easy to navigate, but for on-the-fly speed and immediate access, the iPad app is a must. It's excellent. I'm surprised there are no screen shots in the description. App is so much easier than the multi-function knob. One tiny gripe: out of the box, you'll need to upgrade firmware in order to use the iPad app. This is done via USB stick. It only took a few minutes, but not all sticks are compatible. Roland has a list on their site. If you don't need SDI, this is the best choice. I ran an 85 ft HDMI with built-in extender on all 8 cams with no problems.
features and quality that are way above its cost
It looks a little cheap in photos but it's much better looking in person. It is small and it is inexpensive and those two things usually mean it's cheap or cheaply made. For this product, that couldn't be further from the truth. It features 8 hdmi inputs up to 1080p. The last 2 are scalable and perfect for computers. However, you can connect a computer to any of the 8 inputs. It also features 3 outputs. these can be configured as program, preview or aux. 1 of them us multiview. The neat thing is the programming. you can have up to 16 presets that are easily programmed and recalled with no lag. It's seamless. That's very cool. We currently have about 10 of these and just bought 2 more. Cons. well... I'm thinking... I'm thinking... hmm? Oh yeah... it doesn't have audio pots.
