Shure BLX14/CVL Overview

The Shure BLX14/CVL brings presenters, teachers, clergy, and lecturers a cost-effective wireless lavalier microphone system with quality sound, simple setup, intuitive operation, and dependable performance right out of the box. It includes the compact and lightweight BLX4 single-channel tabletop receiver with internal antennas, ideal for portable use.

The BLX14/CVL also includes a CVL cardioid lavalier mic with clip and windscreen, and a bodypack transmitter. The receiver features one-touch QuickScan frequency selection to quickly search 123 available frequencies and locate a clean RF channel in case of interference. The system provides up to 14 hours of continuous use with two AA batteries, at a range up to 300'. Up to 12 mic channels can operate simultaneously in each frequency band.

This streamlined system is well suited for hands-free speech in small venues, wedding halls, and houses of worship, as well as conference, educational, and corporate facilities.

Low-Visibility Lavalier Mic Optimized for Speech
The CVL Centraverse lavalier condenser microphone is built for low visibility and clear vocal reproduction. The mic features a cardioid polar pattern that rejects unwanted noise, Commshield RF Filtering to minimize RF interference from nearby smartphones, and a tailored frequency response optimized for speech intelligibility.
Lightweight Bodypack Transmitter
The durable BLX1 bodypack transmitter offers a lightweight, ergonomic design that is comfortable for the presenter to wear. Group and channel selection buttons allow for quick and simple frequency matching with the receiver. Other features include an easily accessible on/off switch, adjustable gain control, and a TA4M 4-pin input jack.
Easy-to-Use Tabletop Receiver for Quality Audio
The BLX4 receiver employs microprocessor-controlled internal antenna diversity to improve the quality and reliability of your wireless audio. An LED display shows group and channel settings, while two LED lights indicate when the system is ready for use and the strength of the incoming audio signal. The unit offers 1/4" and XLR outputs for connectivity to PA systems and mixing boards.
A Versatile System to Meet Your Needs
Shure offers a variety of lavalier, instrument, headset, and handheld microphone options to adapt your BLX system as your needs evolve.

  • The discrete MX153 sub-miniature earset mic provides exceptional clarity in spoken word applications.
  • The PGA31 is a comfortable, durable headset microphone for active performance.
  • Instrumentalists can attach the WB98H/C flexible gooseneck instrument microphone for brass, woodwind, and percussion applications.
  • The WA302 guitar cable lets you connect the bodypack transmitter to a guitar or bass.
  • The BLX2 handheld transmitter is available with three different mic capsules for presenters who prefer the flexibility of a handheld microphone.

had alot of issues

I had alot of issues using more than one of these side by side, close, far, or even separated they were cutting out in both suburban but especially closer to the city. They were dropping out left and right regardless of searching for open frequencies and that built in feature. I just could not figure it out. I have other BLX single units and they have been fine.

QUICK set up works perfectly out of the box

We bought these to replace the old mic pack used by our senior pastor. We got two great sounding mics out of this purchase. Although we use different model headset mics rather than the lapels it comes with for the pastors, the lapels work just as well. We have used them for other guest speakers with no issues.

Can you use 3 of these units together? We need a total of 6 mics for a theater production.
Asked by: Mark
Yes, technically you can use 3 of these systems together. The normal max channel count for BLX systems without frequency distribution is 6. Having little to no interference really depends on where you will be using this system. Please use Shure's Frequency Finder website to make sure you are purchasing the correct frequency band based off your area code. https://www.shure.com/en-US/support/tools/frequency-finder

Will these work for stage singing, i.e., a musical with four singers, in both open spaces and closed venues? Thanks
Asked by: Jomi
This system could be a viable option for stage performance, but it depends on a few factors. First, know you will need 4 of these systems to allow for 4 wireless mics to run at the same time. Second, you would need to confirm which frequencies are available in your performance area, this would tell you what frequency ranges to use and whether this system can hand 4 mics at one time. This can be done using Shure's Wireless Frequency Finder. We would recommend giving us a call at 800-606-6969 to assist in finding that information. Lastly for musicals, you'd probably want a lower profile lav mic you could hide on the performers head, or in a costume. Here's a recommendation for that type of mic BH #SHTL47TOMTQG.

Does this come with a hard case or soft case? Or just retail packaging
Asked by: Joel
The Shure BLX wireless system comes in the original retail packaging and does not include a case. We do have a Gator Cases Carry Bag for Shure BLX Dual-Channel Wireless System (B&H # GAGMDUALW) which is sold separately.

Can this be utilized solely as in ear monitors?
Asked by: Jacob
No, the components of the Shure BLX188/CVL Dual-Channel Wireless Cardioid Lavalier Microphone System cannot be repurposed as in ear monitors. In this scenario, the smaller beltpack units are transmitters with TA4F microphone connections, where an IEM system would require them to be receivers with headphone connections.

Am I able to record audio to be used for video with this system, or is this strictly for presenters? I'm looking for a mic system that would work for both.
Asked by: Zachary
It works perfectly for both. I use it primarily with the Canon XA11 (XLR in)!and it’s got great sound as long as you use good mic placement techniques. One excellent feature is the separate line and mic-level outputs.

Can these be mounted in a rack, or does it cause issues with the internal antennas?
Asked by: Ryan
The Shure BLX188 receiver is specifically designed to be a tabletop receiver, and is not rackmountable as per the manufacturer. The only BLX series that are rackmountable are the BLX14R and BLX24R models of single channel recievers.
