Pairing speed and refined optics, the HD PENTAX-D FA* 85mm f/1.4 ED SDM AW from Pentax is a short-telephoto lens offering the classic focal length and bright design that gives it its portrait-length designation. The fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also suits creating shallow depth of field, selective focus imagery. Three Super ED elements and one aspherical element help to reduce a variety of aberrations and distortion in order to realize a high degree of sharpness, clarity, and accurate rendering, and a multi-layer HD coating helps to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy in bright and backlit conditions. Complementing the optics is an SDM autofocus system that delivers especially quick, quiet, and accurate focusing performance that suits both stills and video applications. Additionally, the lens has an All Weather construction and a Super Protect coating on the front element to enable its use in trying environmental conditions.

Pentax D FA* 85mm f/1.4 ED SDM AW Reviews
Best lens ever
For 30 years I’ve considered the 85mm 1.4 and always shied away, thinking the 50mm 1.4 or 100mm 2.8 would suffice, or I had little money, or not enuf time to use it, or thought it might be too heavy, or…or…then I ran out of excuses; and…bought it and the very first two informal, natural light portraits of my daughter “in the wild” were the best portraits I have ever taken of anyone in any lighting in my life. Of course a photogenic daughter helped. (mike drop)
Outstanding but heavy
Wow! That is the first reaction when you see the lens, when you take it into your hand and when you take your first shots. Excellent sharpness, color rendition, great built, but way too heavy for the city or for a prolonged photoshoot at the wedding... studio lens at its best. 2,5kg (lens + body) in your hand feels like a great workout! Give it a try. The price is the issue, but overall if you are a diehard Pentaxian go for it! It's once in your lifetime experience:)
